Azimuthal angle dependence of optical second harmonic intensity from a vicinal GaAs(001) wafer [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
We demonstrate that the tilt angle of a zinc blende type single crystal (001) wafer can be measured by optical second harmonic generation. The SH intensity patterns were analyzed for all four combinations of p- and s-polarized incidence and output ...

Impact of Asymptomatic Intracranial Hemorrhage on Outcome After Endovascular Stroke Treatment

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Endovascular treatment (EVT) achieves high rates of recanalization in acute large‐vessel occlusion (LVO) stroke, but functional recovery remains heterogeneous. While symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH) has been well studied, the prognostic impact of asymptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (aICH) after EVT is less certain ...

Influence of magnetism on second harmonic generation [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 1993
Optical second harmonic generation (SHG) in 75\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{} reflection was studied on longitudinally magnetized PtMnSb(111) and magnetic circular dichroism was observed with SHG. For circularly polarized incident light of 532 nm it amounts to (7\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1)%.

Multidimensional Profiling of MRI‐Negative Temporal Lobe Epilepsy Uncovers Distinct Phenotypes

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Although hippocampal sclerosis (TLE‐HS) represents the most frequent cause of temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE), up to 30% of patients show no lesion on visual MRI inspection (TLE‐MRIneg). These cases pose diagnostic and therapeutic challenges and are underrepresented in surgical series.

Second-Harmonic Generation in Mie-Resonant GaAs Nanowires

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
We investigate the enhancement of second-harmonic generation in cylindrical GaAs nanowires. Although these nanostructures confine light in two dimensions, power conversion efficiencies on the order of 10 − 5 with a pump peak intensity

Interferometric second harmonic generation microscopy

open access: yesOptics Express, 2004
We describe a novel second harmonic generation (SHG) microscope that employs heterodyne detection by interfering the epi directed SHG from a sample with SHG from a reference crystal. In addition, the microscope provides complementary reflectance information based on optical coherence microscopy (OCM).

Second-harmonic generation in absorptive media [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Letters, 1994
The solution of the coupled-wave equations for second-harmonic generation in a near-resonant three-level system is extended to include absorption. It is shown, within second-order perturbation theory, that double resonance is the optimal conversion condition, despite absorption enhancement.

Innate Immune Reprogramming Mediated by Endogenous Retroelement Dysregulation Drives Multiple Sclerosis Progression

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
Epigenetic reprogramming in hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) and downstream myeloid cells, mediated by H3.3 downregulation and endogenous retroelement (ERE) overexpression, contributes to the progression of multiple sclerosis (MS). ABSTRACT Background Skewed myelopoiesis in the bone marrow has been identified as a key driver of multiple ...

Second harmonic generation microscopy in zebrafish [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Modern optical imaging has progressed rapidly with the ability to noninvasively image cellular and subcellular phenomena with high spatial and temporal resolution. In particular, emerging techniques such as second harmonic generation (SHG) microscopy can allow for the monitoring of intrinsic contrast, such as that from collagen, in live and fixed ...

Second-harmonic generation provides insight into the screening response of the liquid water interface

open access: yes, 2023
We use second harmonic generation (SHG), molecular dynamics simulation, and theoretical modeling to study the response of the neat liquid water-air interface to changes in the potential of an external electrode positioned near the liquid, but out of ...
