Fish Scales: A Multifunctional Biomaterial from Nature

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
Fish scales demonstrate nature's solution to impact protection through overlapping multilayered architecture. This biological design combines mineralized surfaces with collagen networks to achieve both flexibility and fracture resistance. The structural principles inspire advanced protective materials and biomedical implants, where damage tolerance ...

In vitro methodology, hormonal and nutritional effects and fibre production in isolated ovine and caprine anagen hair follicles

open access: yesAnimal, 2010
Mammalian hair follicles are complex multicellular structures in the skin, which produce hair fibre under the influence of locally produced and systemic signalling systems. Investigation to determine mechanisms of regulation, follicular responses and the

Characterization of hair-follicle side population cells in mouse epidermis and skin tumors. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
A subset of cells, termed side-population (SP), which have the ability to efflux Hoeschst 33342, have previously been demonstrated to act as a potential method to isolate stem cells. Numerous stem/progenitor cells have been localized in different regions

Antibacterial Hydrogel Dressing With Ca2+‐Dependent Hyaluronidase Responsiveness for Accelerating Wound Healing via On‐Demand Release of AIE Photosensitizers

open access: yesExploration, EarlyView.
This study innovates a Ca2+‐responsive hydrogel dressing that releases AIE photosensitizers on‐demand. Low Ca2+ enhances bacterial hyaluronidase (HAase) activity, degrading hyaluronic acid dressing to trigger antibacterial ROS release, while high Ca2+ inhibits HAase, preventing overdosing.

VDAC2 Mediates the Apoptosis of Cashmere Goat Hair Follicle Stem Cells Through the P53 Signaling Pathway

open access: yesAnimals
Hair follicle stem cells (HFSCs) are pluripotent stem cells located in the bulges of hair follicles. Apoptosis regulates tissue homeostasis by eliminating unnecessary or damaged cells during development and aging.

Somatic cell reprogramming for Parkinson's disease treatment

open access: yesIbrain, Volume 11, Issue 1, Page 59-73, Spring 2025.
The fundamental purpose of cell reprogramming to treat Parkinson's disease is to generate dopaminergic neurons (DAN) and do transplantation. There are two ways to accomplish this. One method is to induce cells into induced DA neurons (iDAN) directly or to induce cells into induced pluripotent stem cells and ultimately into iDAN in vitro. Another option

Benign follicular tumors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Benign follicular tumors comprise a large and heterogeneous group of neoplasms that share a common histogenesis and display morphological features resembling one or several portions of the normal hair follicle, or recapitulate part of its embryological ...
