Secondary Immunodeficiencies of Horses
Veterinary Clinics of North America: Equine Practice, 2000FPT of immunoglobulin in foals is the commonest form of acquired immunodeficiency in horses. FPT predisposes foals to bacterial infections and septicemia and easily is preventable and treatable if breeding farms and veterinarians are attentive to optimum foaling management practices.

Overview of secondary immunodeficiency
Allergy and Asthma ProceedingsIn contrast to inborn errors of immunity (IEI), which are inherited disorders of the immune system that predispose to infections, malignancy, atopy, and immune dysregulation, secondary immunodeficiencies and immune dysregulation states (SID) are acquired impairments in immune cell function and/or regulation, and may be transient, reversible, or ...

[Primary and secondary immunodeficiencies].
Therapeutische Umschau. Revue therapeutique, 2014Primary Immunodeficiencies (PID) are rare, genetically determined diseases that cause dysfunctional immunity, clinically presenting as susceptibility to infection but also as autoimmunity due to deficient immune tolerance. More than 180 PID have been described to date.

Intravenous immunoglobulin for secondary immunodeficiency
Blut, 1990Viral and bacterial infections are a serious cause of morbidity and mortality in patients immunocompromised as a result of malignancy, burns, trauma, viral infections or chemotherapy. The development of safe and effective antibody preparations suitable for intravenous use have transformed the lives of patients suffering from forms of primary ...

Immunodeficiency III: secondary immunodeficiency and AIDS
2013This chapter concentrates on the defects in secondary immunodeficiencies and its principal causes. It emphasizes that secondary immunodeficiency results from some influence external to the immune system-infection, malnutrition, etc-ranging from the slightly increased risk of infection following surgery to the severe and progressive immune failure of ...

Immunocorrective properties of antibiotics in secondary immunodeficiency
Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, 1992The study investigated immunocorrecting properties of penicillin G, streptomycin, gentamycin in cyclophosphamide--induced immunodeficiency in mice. It was determined, that antibiotics in sub-bactericidal doses possess pronounced immunocorrecting properties. This effect was observed in both humoral and cell-mediated immune response.

Immunorestoration in Secondary Immunodeficiency
1987Twenty years ago, the study of immunodeficiency concentrated on congenital, primary immunodeficiency in which a cell population or molecule was genetically absent or dysfunctional. Secondary immunodeficiency was restricted to immunosuppressive treatment for organ transplantation and autoimmune diseases, to lymphoid malignancies such as Hodgkins disease,

Thymic pathology in primary and secondary immunodeficiencies
Histopathology, 1992For the sake of clarity and in agreement with the World Health Organization immunodeficiency classification, it is important to distinguish the congenital, inherited malformative lesions called generically ‘thymic dysplasia’ from the secondary, acquired changes, designated under the broad term of ‘severe thymic atrophy’. Thymic dysplasia represents the

Immunodeficiency: Innate, Primary, and Secondary
2014Clinical manifestations of immunodeficiency diseases are recurrent infections with sinopulmonary conditions as the predominant manifestation. Immune deficiencies also result in immune dysregulation, with asthma as a common feature. Many immune deficiencies can lead to chronic pulmonary infections that mimic asthma and remain unrecognized ...
