Genetic Mapping for Seed Aging Tolerance Under Multiple Environments in Sweet Corn

open access: yesAgronomy
Seed vigor significantly impacts seed production and storage. Enhancing seed vigor is a pivotal goal in sweet corn breeding, as improved seed sowing quality is crucial for agricultural development, aiding in better resilience against storage adversities ...

A rapid and sensitive method to assess seed longevity through accelerated aging in an invasive plant species

open access: yesPlant Methods, 2020
Background Seed longevity and vigor assessment is crucial for efficient ex situ biodiversity conservation in genebanks but may also have potential applications for the understanding of ecological processes and in situ biodiversity conservation.

Accelerated aging of arugula seeds

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Ciências Agrárias - Brazilian Journal of Agricultural Sciences, 2018
This work aimed to study procedures for conducting the accelerated aging test and evaluating the physiological potential of arugula seeds. Five seed lots of cv. Cultivada and four of cv. Folha Larga were firstly subjected to the following tests for characterization of their physiological qualities: moisture content, germination test, first counting ...

Epigenetic silencing of the liver‐specific lncRNA LUNAR promotes liver cancer progression via NOTCH activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
LUNAR is a liver‐specific long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) that is highly expressed in normal liver but becomes epigenetically silenced in hepatocellular carcinoma through promoter hypermethylation. Loss of LUNAR is associated with NOTCH activation, epithelial–mesenchymal transition, and metastasis, whereas restoring LUNAR restrains metastatic progression ...

Seed Ageing

open access: yes, 2012
Seed aging and viability are affected by a number of factors during seed production, as well as seed storage. The speed at which the seed aging process takes place depends on the seed’s ability to resist degradative changes as well as on its protection mechanisms, which are species-specific. Duration of aging period, type of storage and characteristics

CEACAM1 participation in breast cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In invasive breast cancer (BC), CEACAM1 shifts from an apical to a uniform membranous/cytoplasmic pattern, or is lost, as tumors dedifferentiate, inversely tracking the Ki‐67 proliferative index. In MCF‐7 cells, only CEACAM1‐4L suppresses proliferation, repressing cell cycle and growth factor genes.

Effect of Accelerated Aging on Seed Germination, Vigour, Lipid Peroxidation, and Membrane Integrity in Wheat

open access: yesJournal of Agricultural and Marine Sciences, 2001
The effects of environmental treatments known to rapidly shorten seed viability were compared along with cultivar response to the aging process. Seed germinability, coleoptile expansion, electrolyte leakage, and free radical-mediated lipid peroxidation ...

Pharmacological chromatin remodeling enhances response to estrogen therapy in ER+ breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Estrogen therapy elicits clinical benefit in ~ 30% of patients with endocrine‐resistant estrogen receptor (ER)‐positive breast cancer. Based on findings that ER transcriptional activation underlies response to estrogen therapy, we tested the effects of epigenetic dysregulation via pharmacological inhibition of histone deacetylases (HDACi).

Intrapatient tumour heterogeneity and clonal evolution in an autopsy study of metastatic salivary gland cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumour heterogeneity and clonal evolution of metastatic salivary gland cancer were evaluated in two patients with adenoid carcinoma and one patient with myoepithelial carcinoma. Radiology‐guided autopsy enabled multi‐region sampling (total samples n = 149), followed by whole‐genome sequencing and phylogenetic reconstruction (17 tumour samples, 4–7 per ...

Somatostatin receptor 4 (SSTR4) is a tumor suppressor in cutaneous and head & neck squamous cell carcinomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study identifies somatostatin receptor 4 (Sstr4) as a critical tumor suppressor against skin and head/neck cancers (HNSCC, cSCC, and BCC). The loss of Sstr4 removes a check on cell growth, causing hyperactivation of the MAPK‐ERK signaling pathway (↑).
