Seed treatments: phytotoxicity amelioration and tracer uptake [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Seed treatments are used globally on a wide range of field, vegetable and ornamental seeds, for efficient early season control of insects and diseases. However, specific seed-treatment compounds may be phytotoxic and this phytotoxicity is most acute in ...

Effects of APETALA2 on embryo, endosperm, and seed coat development determine seed size in [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Arabidopsis APETALA2 (AP2) controls seed mass maternally, with ap2 mutants producing larger seeds than wild type. Here, we show that AP2 influences development of the three major seed compartments: embryo, endosperm, and seed coat.

Therapeutic strategies for MMAE‐resistant bladder cancer through DPP4 inhibition

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We established monomethyl auristatin E (MMAE)‐resistant bladder cancer (BC) cell lines by exposure to progressively increasing concentrations of MMAE in vitro. RNA sequencing showed DPP4 expression was increased in MMAE‐resistant BC cells. Both si‐DPP4 and the DPP4 inhibitor sitagliptin suppressed the viability of MMAE‐resistant BC cells.

Antioxidant activity and properties of walnut brown seed coat extract [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
To date, there are few studies about the properties of walnut brown seed coat. The antioxidant activity and properties of walnut brown seed coat was considered in this study and the amounts of carotenoids, chlorophylla, chlorophyllb, vitamin E were ...

Influence of irrigation conditions in the germination of plasma treated Nasturtium seeds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Plasma treatments had emerged as a useful technique to improve seed germination. In this work we investigate the influence of different irrigation conditions and plasma treatments on the germination of nasturtium seeds.

Recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming and confer resistance to targeted therapies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that the majority of the 18 analyzed recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming. The most potent mutations are activating, co‐operate with other ERBB receptors, and are sensitive to pan‐ERBB inhibitors. Activating ERBB4 mutations also promote therapy resistance in EGFR‐mutant lung cancer.

Diversity of selected Lupinus angustifolius L. genotypes at the phenotypic and DNA level with respect to microscopic seed coat structure and thickness.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
The paper investigates seed coat characteristics (as a percentage of overall seed diameter) in Lupinus angustifolius L., a potential forage crop. In the study ten L.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Water Uptake by Seeds in Yellow-seeded Soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) Cultivars with Contrasting Imbibition Behaviors

open access: yesPlant Production Science, 2008
The rate of water uptake by seeds is assumed to be an important factor affecting the susceptibility of seeds to flooding injury, but the traits which could contribute to restricting rapid imbibition by seeds remain undetermined in yellow-seeded soybeans.

Combining antibody conjugates with cytotoxic and immune‐stimulating payloads maximizes anti‐cancer activity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Methods to improve antibody–drug conjugate (ADC) treatment durability in cancer therapy are needed. We utilized ADCs and immune‐stimulating antibody conjugates (ISACs), which are made from two non‐competitive antibodies, to enhance the entry of toxic payloads into cancer cells and deliver immunostimulatory agents into immune cells.
