Heterogeneous condensation of the Lennard-Jones vapor onto a nanoscale seed particle

open access: yes, 2011
The heterogeneous condensation of a Lennard-Jones vapor onto a nanoscale seed particle is studied using molecular dynamics simulations. Measuring the nucleation rate and the height of the free energy barrier using the mean first passage time method shows

Global patterns in seed size

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Biogeography, 2006
ABSTRACT Aim  To provide the first global quantification of the slope and shape of the latitudinal gradient in seed mass, and to determine whether global patterns in seed mass are best explained by growth form, vegetation type, seed dispersal syndrome, or net primary productivity (NPP).

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Zinc finger CCHC-type protein related with seed size in model legume species Medicago truncatula

open access: yesBiotechnology & Biotechnological Equipment, 2019
Legumes are one of the world's leading sources of nutrition, providing sustainable agriculture. They require minimal amounts of soil improvers (fertilizers) due to the ability to absorb nitrogen through symbiotic interactions with nitrogen-fixing soil ...

Characterization of seediness attributes of blackberry genotypes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Fresh market blackberries can feel “seedy” when consumed. This “seediness” is associated with the presence of pyrenes which are comprised of a single seed enclosed in an endocarp. Small pyrene size

Dammarenediol II enhances etoposide‐induced apoptosis by targeting O‐GlcNAc transferase and Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling in liver cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Etoposide induces DNA damage, activating p53‐dependent apoptosis via caspase‐3/7, which cleaves PARP1. Dammarenediol II enhances this apoptotic pathway by suppressing O‐GlcNAc transferase activity, further decreasing O‐GlcNAcylation. The reduction in O‐GlcNAc levels boosts p53‐driven apoptosis and influences the Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling pathway ...

Genome-Wide Identification and Characterization of APETALA2/Ethylene-Responsive Element Binding Factor Superfamily Genes in Soybean Seed Development

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2020
Glycine max is one of the most important grain and oil crops, and improvement of seed yield is one of the major objectives in soybean breeding. The AP2/ERF superfamily members are involved in regulating flower and seed development in many species, and ...

Seed mass diversity along resource gradients: the role of allometric growth rate and size-asymmetric competition

open access: yes, 2018
The large variation in seed mass among species inspired a vast array of theoretical and empirical research attempting to explain this variation. So far, seed mass variation was investigated by two classes of studies: one class focuses on species varying ...

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Identification of candidate loci regulating seed-associated traits in soybean using genome-wide association study and image-based high-throughput phenotyping

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Seed-associated traits such as flowering, maturity, and seed size are critical determinants of yield and seed morphology in soybean. However, their reliable evaluation is often hindered by polygenic control and strong environmental influences.
