Dapagliflozin prevents methylglyoxal‐induced retinal cell death in ARPE‐19 cells

Diabetic macular oedema is a diabetes complication of the eye, which may lead to permanent blindness. ARPE‐19 are human retinal cells used to study retinal diseases and potential therapeutics. Methylglyoxal is a compound increased in uncontrolled diabetes due to elevated blood glucose.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Immunochemical studies on barley seed storage proteins

Abstract The immunological relationships of the cereal storage proteins are important in relation to studies of their synthesis and of coeliac disease. These proteins are insoluble in water and the denaturing solvents sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) and urea used to dissolve them, may interfere with antigen-atibody reactions.

Guava seed storage protein: Fractionation and characterization

Abstract In the present work, guava seed storage proteins have been fractionated and characterized. Glutelins (86–90 g/100 g) and globulins (≈10 g/100 g) are the main components of the protein extract. Albumins and prolamins are minor components (≈2 g/100 g).

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.
