Food Superstores, Food Deserts and Traffic Generation in the UK: A Semi-Parametric Regression Approach [PDF]

open access: yes
This study contributes another route towards explaining and tackling ‘food desert’ effects. It features the estimation of a (semi-parametric) trip attraction model for food superstores in the UK using a composite dataset.

From the first stars to the first black holes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The growth of the first super massive black holes (SMBHs) at z > 6 is still a major challenge for theoretical models. If it starts from black hole (BH) remnants of Population III stars (light seeds with mass ~ 100 Msun) it requires super-Eddington ...

Cell surface interactome analysis identifies TSPAN4 as a negative regulator of PD‐L1 in melanoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using cell surface proximity biotinylation, we identified tetraspanin TSPAN4 within the PD‐L1 interactome of melanoma cells. TSPAN4 negatively regulates PD‐L1 expression and lateral mobility by limiting its interaction with CMTM6 and promoting PD‐L1 degradation.

Drought Stress Mitigation in Wheat Seedlings via Green-Synthesized Silver Nanoparticle Priming

open access: yesSeeds
Drought is a major abiotic stress that compromises seed germination, seedling establishment, and subsequent crop productivity, thereby threatening agricultural sustainability and food security.

Optimal sliding scale regulation: An application to regional electricity distribution in England and Wales [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper examines optimal price (i.e. ‘sliding scale’) regulation of a monopoly when productivity and managerial effort are not observed. We show how to operationalise this model of incentive regulation and use actual data from electricity distribution

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Germination Potential of Six Native Plant Species for Phytoremediation of Hydrocarbon Contaminated Peat Soils

open access: yesSeeds
Research on the remediation of hydrocarbon contaminated peatlands is limited; in particular, hydrocarbon effects on seed germination is critical for effective reclamation.

Asymmetric Price Responses and the Underlying Energy Demand Trend: Are they Substitutes or Complements? Evidence from Modelling OECD Aggregate Energy Demand [PDF]

open access: yes
A number of energy demand studies have considered the importance of modelling Asymmetric Price Responses (APR), for example, the often-cited work of Gately and Huntington (2002). Griffin and Schulman (2005) questioned the asymmetric approach arguing that

LDAcoop: Integrating non‐linear population dynamics into the analysis of clonogenic growth in vitro

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Limiting dilution assays (LDAs) quantify clonogenic growth by seeding serial dilutions of cells and scoring wells for colony formation. The fraction of negative wells is plotted against cells seeded and analyzed using the non‐linear modeling of LDAcoop.

Morpho-anatomical Study of 100 Tomato Lines

open access: yesInternational Journal of Bio-Resource and Stress Management, 2014
A study has been undertaken of 100 genotypes of tomato grown in polyhouse during summer (April-May 2012) for general morphological and anatomical characters of leaves of one hundred tomato genotypes and its possible relation with drought and heat stress
