Validation of ShakeMaps Created From Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Velocities
Ground velocity observations generated through a time difference of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) phase observables and orbits have been shown to be comparable to seismic recordings without clipping during intense ground motions. Computing GNSS velocities is also computationally scalable and increases the density of ground motion ...

This paper investigates the capability of acoustic Full Waveform Inversion (FWI) in building Marmousi velocity model, in time and frequency domain. FWI is an iterative minimization of misfit between observed and calculated data which is generally solved ...

Efficient Tensor Completion Algorithms for Highly Oscillatory Operators
ABSTRACT We address the problem of recovering highly oscillatory operators, represented as nĂn$$ n\times n $$ matrices with a fixed set of observed entries. Given that these matrices can be well compressed by butterfly matrix decomposition of L=đȘ(logn) levels requiring only O(nlogn)$$ O\left(n\log n\right) $$ degrees of freedom, we propose a novel ...

Pressurization of Shallow Magma Reservoir Preceding Basaltic Eruptions at an OpenâVent Volcano
Abstract Openâvent volcanoes are characterized by the persistent activity of outgassing, lava effusion and mild explosions, which is, however, occasionally interrupted by more violent explosive activity (paroxysm), for example, Stromboli (Italy). In spite of the different (two orders of magnitude) explosive intensities and different petrological magma ...

Tunnel reconnaissance by seismic full waveform inversion

Seismic exploration is the most precise geophysical method for investigating and forecasting subsurface resources, yet its conventional fully elastic assumption neglects temperature effects, limiting its utility in geothermal studies.

On the full-waveform inversion of seismic moment tensors
In this work, we propose a full-waveform technique for the spatial reconstruction and characterization of (micro-) seismic events via joint source location and moment tensor inversion. The approach is formulated in the frequency domain, and it allows for the simultaneous inversion of multiple point-like events.

Abstract Seismic attenuation provides sensitivity to fracture density, fluid saturation, and pore geometry that complements velocity, enabling quantitative imaging of fracture architecture and associated fluidâpathways in nearâsurface bedrock. Yet highâresolution attenuation models remain rare in refraction studies due to amplitudeâfidelity and ...

Thermochemical Controls on the X, 410, and 660 Discontinuities in the Central Mediterranean
Abstract The mantle beneath the Central Mediterranean is thermally and compositionally heterogeneous, as indicated by fragmented and locally stagnant slabs in tomographic images and HIMUâlike anorogenic magmatism. Mantle discontinuities are sensitive to both temperature and composition, and thus provide a way to quantify these heterogeneities.

Abstract We present arrayâscale (âŒ500 Ă 500 km) anisotropic shearâvelocity models from two Pacific oceanâbottom seismometer (OBS) arrays of the OBS Research in the Convecting Asthenosphere (ORCA) experiment: Young ORCA (âŒ43 Ma) and Old ORCA (âŒ90 Ma). Rayleighâwave phase velocities spanning 5â150 s are combined with Loveâwave phase velocities from 5 to ...
