Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Selection principles and covering properties in Topology

open access: yes, 2003
The study of selection principles in mathematics is the study of diagonalization processes. In this survey we restrict ourselves to selection principles which have been considered in the context of topology.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Selection of building materials based upon ecological characteristics: priorities in function of environmental protection [PDF]

open access: yesSpatium, 2009
Numerous scientific researches show that the activities connected with building materials produce significant negative environmental effects. Observed from the point of architecture, the use of building materials is found to be one of the ...

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Materials Selection Principles for Designing Electro‐Thermal Neurons

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials
Artificial neurons exhibiting volatile threshold switching and action potential‐like oscillations are crucial for brain‐inspired computing. While Complimentary Metal‐Oxide‐Semiconductor (CMOS)‐based strategies require hundreds of transistors to simulate ...

Branch and bound method for multiobjective pairing selection

open access: yes, 2010
Most of the available methods for selection of input-output pairings for decentralized control require evaluation of all alternatives to find the optimal pairings.

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified
