Self-organized formation of topographic maps for abstract data, such as words, is demonstrated in this work. The semantic relationships in the data are reflected by their relative distances in the map. Two different simulations, both based on a neural network model that implements the algorithm of the selforganizing feature maps, are given.

Real-Time Metric-Semantic Mapping for Autonomous Navigation in Outdoor Environments
IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and EngineeringThe creation of a metric-semantic map, which encodes human-prior knowledge, represents a high-level abstraction of environments. However, constructing such a map poses challenges related to the fusion of multi-modal sensor data, the attainment of real ...

Educational Psychology Review, 1989
Research on multirelational semantic maps is laden with promise for educational applications, but the development of knowledge mapping systems has been largely unsystematic. This paper describes the distinctive features of knowledge maps, discusses their origins, and explores some of the strengths and weaknesses of the wide variety of maps and mapping ...

Deep Subpixel Mapping Based on Semantic Information Modulated Network for Urban Land Use Mapping
IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2021Mixed pixel problem is omnipresent in remote sensing images for urban land use interpretation due to the hardware limitations. Subpixel mapping (SPM) is a usual way to solve this problem by improving the observation scale and realizing a finer spatial ...

The cumbersome process of construction and incremental update of large indoor maps can be simplified by semantic maps. A novel semantic mapping method for indoor environments is proposed which employs a flash-n-extend strategy for constructing and updating the map. At the exposure of every flash event, a 3D snapshot of the environment is taken which is

Active Bayesian Multi-class Mapping from Range and Semantic Segmentation Observations
IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2021Many robot applications call for autonomous exploration and mapping of unknown and unstructured environments. Information-based exploration techniques, such as Cauchy-Schwarz quadratic mutual information (CSQMI) and fast Shannon mutual information (FSMI),

Mapping semantic space: property norms and semantic richness
Cognitive Processing, 2019In semantic property listing tasks, participants list many features for some concepts and fewer for others. This variability in number of features (NoF) has been used in previous research as a measure of a concept's semantic richness, and such studies have shown that in lexical-semantic tasks responses tend to be facilitated for words with high NoF ...
