Semi-active Control

2011
Active control systems rely entirely on external power to operate the actuators and supply the control forces. In many applications, such systems require a large power source, which makes them costly (this is why there has been very few cars equipped with fully active suspensions) and vulnerable to power failure (this is why the civil engineering ...

Fuzzy semi-active damping force estimator (fSADE) and skyhook semi-active suspension systems

International Journal of Vehicle Systems Modelling and Testing, 2011
This paper presents the comparative study on semi-active suspension controlled by skyhook algorithm and fuzzy semi-active damping force estimator (fSADE). The damping element used in the semi-active suspension is non-pressurised magnetorheological (MR) damper.

A semi-active robot for steep obstacle ascent

2013 IEEE International Conference on Control Applications (CCA), 2013
In this paper we propose a semi-active robot for climbing steep obstacles like steps, curbs, etc. The key novelty of the proposed robot lies in the use of a passive mechanism for climbing steps of smaller heights and motor only while climbing steps of bigger heights. Analysis of the robot's stability during its ascent phase is also investigated.

Semi-active base isolation for a building structure

International Journal of Computer Applications in Technology, 1999
Abstract Semi-active control methods, where coefficient of viscous damping or spring constant are changed effectively according to the state of control object, have received much attention from control performance and energy consumption. This study deals with the application of semi-active control method to base isolation control.

Cloud aided semi-active suspension control

2014 IEEE Symposium on Computational Intelligence in Vehicles and Transportation Systems (CIVTS), 2014
This paper considers the problem of vehicle suspension control from the perspective of a Vehicle-to-Cloud-to-Vehicle (V2C2V) distributed implementation. A simplified variant of the problem is examined based on the linear quarter-car model of semi-active suspension dynamics.

A Semi-active Control System for Wind Turbines

2014
A semi-active (SA) control system based on the use of smart magnetorheological (MR) dampers to control the structural response of a wind turbine is proposed herein. The innovative approach is based on the implementation and use of a variable-properties base restraint.

Semi-active reflector antennas

Proceedings of IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium, 2002
Semiactive multimatrix reflector antennas offer efficient reconfigurability for multibeam payloads and have growth potential. The basic idea is to introduce multiport hybrids or matrices between the amplifiers and the feed elements. These include four-port hybrid couplers and phase shifters, like Butler matrices.
