Semi-analytical sensitivity using hybrid finite elements

Computers & Structures, 2000
The paper presents a general algorithm for computation of response sensitivity using semi-analytical approach and hybrid finite elements. In particular, three types of two-dimensional quadrilateral elements based on the Hellinger-Reissner principle and its latter modifications have been chosen and implemented in the sensitivity expressions to ...

SEMI-ANALYTICAL SHAPE FUNCTIONS IN THE FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF RECTANGULAR PLATES

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 2001
This paper presents a method for the dynamic analysis of a thin, elastic, isotropic rectangular plate. The method is a hybrid of finite element theory and classical thin plate theory. The displacement functions are derived from Sanders' thin-shell equations, and are expanded in power series.

Investigation of thermo-acoustoelastic guided waves by semi-analytical finite element method

Ultrasonics, 2020
Guided waves are sensitive to variations in propagation environments. Many recent studies have focused on the uniform thermal effect on Lamb waves. However, there is little research on the thermal effect in a more complex situation, such as a nonuniform thermal effect and wave propagation in an arbitrary cross-section.

Semi-analytical finite elements in the higher-order theory of beams

Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering, 1996
The paper presents semi-analytical finite elements leading to the development of a higher-order theory for beams. An analysis of existing beam theories reveals their semi-analytical character. The semi-analytical finite element (SFE) method proposed assumes the cross-section of a solid beam to be an assemblage of certain semi-analytical elements.

Semi‐analytical far field model for three‐dimensional finite‐element analysis

International Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, 2004
AbstractA challenging computational problem arises when a discrete structure (e.g. foundation) interacts with an unbounded medium (e.g. deep soil deposit), particularly if general loading conditions and non‐linear material behaviour is assumed. In this paper, a novel method for dealing with such a problem is formulated by combining conventional three ...

A semi‐analytical curved element for linear elasticity based on the scaled boundary finite element method

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2016
SummaryThis work introduces a semi‐analytical formulation for the simulation and modeling of curved structures based on the scaled boundary finite element method (SBFEM). This approach adapts the fundamental idea of the SBFEM concept to scale a boundary to describe a geometry.

Semi‐analytical finite element procedure for conduction in anisotropic axisymmetric solids

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 1974
AbstractThrough the use of complex series representations and the properties of adjoint differential operators, a semi‐analytical finite element procedure is developed which can analyse the steady state and transient temperature fields of thermally anisotropic axisymmetric bodies with complete circumferential properties.

Semi-analytical finite element analysis of end problems for orthotropic cylinders

International Journal of Solids and Structures, 1979
Abstract A semi-analytical finite element method has been developed for the solution of general asymmetric elastostatic end problems for orthotropic cylinders by an eigensolution technique. The finite element equations for the semi-infinite cylinder are derived from the potential energy expression assuming that the solution decays exponentially in ...

A nonlinear, semi-analytical finite element analysis for nearly axisymmetric solids

Computers & Structures, 1983
Abstract The presented research is concerned with the development of the theory and accompanying computer program for a semi-analytical finite element analysis of non axisymmetrically loaded, nearly axisymmetric solids. The theoretical basis of the method together with numerical procedures for handling boundary conditions, rigid body motion and the ...

Semi Analytical Finite Element Analysis for Ultrasonic Focusing in a Pipe

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2003
Guided wave focusing has been developed as a promising technique for defect detection in pipeworks, where non‐axisymmetric flexural modes are tuned so that ultrasonic energy can be focused at a target point in a pipe. If a defect is located at the target point, large amplitude reflected waves can be observed.
