Directed evolution of enzymes at the crossroads of tradition and innovation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An iterative cycle of data‐driven enzyme optimization comprising four stages: genetic diversification of a template enzyme, expression of protein variants, high‐throughput evaluation, and machine‐learning‐guided redesign of the next variant library.

Effects of IGFBP4 deficiency on human preadipocyte proliferation and differentiation through the IGF1R/AKT pathway

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
IGFBP4 knockdown (KD) impairs preadipocyte proliferation and is associated with IGF1R protein downregulation and attenuated AKT phosphorylation. The mechanisms by which IGFBP4 KD influences the IGF1R/AKT signaling pathway involve newly synthesized proteins and lysosomal degradation pathways. Created in BioRender.

On the stationary Cahn-Hilliard equation: Interior spike solutions

open access: yes, 1998
We study solutions of the stationary Cahn-Hilliard equation in a bounded smooth domain which have a spike in the interior. We show that a large class of interior points (the "nondegenerate peak" points) have the following property: there exist such ...

From energy provision to protein synthesis: Tunnelling nanotubes as mediators of intercellular metabolic cooperation in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The cytoskeleton‐mediated transport of mitochondria via tunnelling nanotubes restores respiration, increases ATP production, rescues cells from apoptosis, activates the AKT/mTOR signalling pathway, promotes cell migration and invasiveness, contributes to cancer progression and treatment resistance.

Nonlinear Dynamical Analysis on Four Semi-Active Dynamic Vibration Absorbers with Time Delay

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2013
In this paper four semi-active dynamic vibration absorbers (DVAs) are analytically studied, where the time delay induced by measurement and execution in control procedure is included in the system.

Semi-Analytical Solutions for Contaminant

open access: yes, 2002
New method to determine semi-analytical solutions of one-dimensional contaminant transport problem with nonlinear sorption is described. This method is based on operator splitting approach where the convective transport is realized exactly and the di ...

GBT-based semi-analytical solutions for the plastic bifurcation of thin-walled members

open access: yes, 2010
This paper presents the development and illustrates the application of semi-analytical solutions for plastic buckling (bifurcation) problems involving perfectly straight and uniformly compressed thin-walled metal members.

Analytical model for the propagation of small debris objects clouds after fragmentations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Current debris evolutionary models usually neglect fragments smaller than 10 cm because of the high computational effort they add to the simulation. However, small-debris objects can also be dangerous to operational satellites.

Pathways and pitfalls: a qualitative study of student experiences in biomedical science education

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biomedical science students from underrepresented backgrounds face barriers including financial strain, disrupted laboratory access and cultural exclusion. Peer networks provide vital support when institutional systems are difficult to navigate. To create inclusive learning environments and achieve academic success, educators should blend active, hands‐

Stability of numerical method for semi-linear stochastic pantograph differential equations

open access: yesJournal of Inequalities and Applications, 2016
As a particular expression of stochastic delay differential equations, stochastic pantograph differential equations have been widely used in nonlinear dynamics, quantum mechanics, and electrodynamics.
