Terahertz semiconductor-heterostructure lasers
Summaries of Papers Presented at the Lasers and Electro-Optics. CLEO '02. Technical Diges, 2002Semiconductor devices have become indispensable for generating electromagnetic radiation in everyday applications. Visible and infrared diode lasers are at the core of information technology, and at the other end of the spectrum, microwave and radio-frequency emitters enable wireless communications. But the terahertz region (1-10 THz; 1 THz = 10(12) Hz)

Semiconductor Lasers on Silicon
2014 International Semiconductor Laser Conference, 2010A number of important breakthroughs in the past decade have focused attention on Si as a photonic platform. We review here recent progress in this field, focusing on efforts to make lasers on or in silicon and on silicon photonic integrated circuits. The impact active silicon photonic integrated circuits could have on telecommunications and on silicon ...

Laser Annealing of Semiconductors
Journal of Soviet Laser Research, 1983The previous exposition should allow one to understand the basic mechanisms involved in laser annealing. Many aspects of it have not been treated due to lack of space, e. g., the defects associated with the laser irradiation and the technological implication of the method, which may be found in recent literature [64].

SEMICONDUCTOR LASERS FOR TELECOMMUNICATIONS
Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics 2012, 2004Semiconductor lasers have witnessed a remarkable evolution from multimode pulse sources to tunable precision waveform generators for coherent communications. This talk will recount major milestones in this progression with an eye towards the future. Article not available.

Apart from light-emitting diodes, semiconductor lasers are the most important application of optoelectronic semiconductor devices at present. Compared with other laser media such as gases, molecules in solution or other solids, they offer by far the highest conversion efficiency from electric energy to emitted light energy (up to 50%).
