The Vegan Villain Sets Out to The End of Summer: Functionalized Coatings as Biohybrid UV‐Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This study introduces biohybrid coatings incorporating E. coli biomass expressing photoconvertible fluorescent proteins as UV‐A responsive elements. Upon irradiation at 400 nm, the coatings exhibit an irreversible fluorescence shift from green to red within 15 min. Notably, the photoconversion capability is retained after >1 year of storage.

Formation of Laser‐Induced Periodic Surface Structures on Titanium Alloy Using a Picosecond Laser: Dependence on Fluence and Number of Laser Pulses

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Laser treatment of materials is a versatile technique for generating ordered surface structures. Nevertheless, such structures are the result of laser parameters such as laser pulse fluence. We demonstrate that homogeneous low special frequency laser‐induced periodic surface structures are contingent on both single and effective fluence dose and can be

Tailored Nickel Oxide Interfacial Layers Unlock Enhanced Charge Dynamics in LaTiOxNy Thin Film Photoanodes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This study highlights the importance of designing photoanode architectures for solar water splitting that align intrinsic material properties with functional interfaces to optimize the extraction of photogenerated charges. The incorporation of NiOx surface layers in LaTiO2.5N0.5 (LTON) thin film photoanodes exemplifies this approach by leveraging band ...

MEMS‐Based Magnetoelectric Antennas for Wireless Power Transmission in Brain‐Implantable Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Magnetoelectric (ME) antennas allow the minimization of the invasiveness of brain implantable devices, via powering wirelessly systems able to actuate neural tissue. In order to achieve the necessary power efficiency transmission, the choice of the materials and the system assembly is vital.
