Therapeutic effects of adropin on glucose tolerance and substrate utilization in diet-induced obese mice with insulin resistance

open access: yesMolecular Metabolism, 2015
Objective: The peptide hormone adropin regulates fuel selection preferences in skeletal muscle under fed and fasted conditions. Here, we investigated whether adropin treatment can ameliorate the dysregulation of fuel substrate metabolism, and improve ...

The Importance of Victim Sensitive Body-Worn Camera Policy

open access: yesApplied Police Briefings
Working with interview data from victims of sexual assault and/or intimate partner violence (IPV), key themes emerged that are important for victim-sensitive body-worn camera (BWC) policies: notification, consent, alternative recording options, procedural consistency, and data storage and access.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: Pathogenesis, health consequences, and treatment of PCOS in relation to insulin resistance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The purpose of this paper is to present a review of the current research on polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). PCOS is one of the most common endocrine disorders in women of reproductive age, affecting 5-10% of the population. Despite its prevalence, PCOS

CD207‐Positive Dendritic Cells Promote Emphysema Through CD8+ T Cell Pathway in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
CD207+ dendritic cells (DCs) drive emphysema by promoting CD8⁺ T cell cytotoxicity via Birbeck granule‐dependent MHC‐I antigen presentation. This DC subset is expanded by cigarette smoke‐induced oxidative stress, which triggers granulocyte‐macrophage colony‐stimulating factor (GM‐CSF) release from airway epithelium.

The Borders of the Self: Contamination Sensitivity and Potency of the Body Apertures and Other Body Parts

open access: yesJournal of Research in Personality, 1995
Abstract Three surveys of American undergraduate students explore a central aspect of the concept of "physical self:" the vulnerability or sensitivity of different parts of the body surface, especially apertures, to intrusion and contamination. The basic measure used was rated displeasure at imagined contact of various body parts of the subject with ...

Hyperandrogenemia Induces Trophoblast Ferroptosis and Early Pregnancy Loss in Patients With PCOS via CMA‐Dependent FTH1 Degradation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In PCOS patients with hyperandrogenemia, decreased ferritin heavy chain 1 (FTH1) causes Fe2⁺ overload and ferroptosis in trophoblasts. Androgens induce FTH1 protein degradation via AR‐LAMP2A‐mediated chaperone‐mediated autophagy pathway, leading to placental development disruption and early pregnancy loss. Metformin mitigates androgen‐induced placental

Cancer Cell‐Intrinsic Cholesterol Induces Lipid‐Associated Macrophage Differentiation via SP1 Palmitoylation to Promote Prostate Cancer Progression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cancer cell‐intrinsic cholesterol promotes the S‐palmitoylation of SP1, increasing its nuclear translocation and driving the transcription and secretion of MDK, which in turn facilitates the differentiation of macrophages into a lipid‐associated phenotype.
