Optimization of sensor arrays for beam position estimation
Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 2000A design procedure is presented to optimize linear arrays of sensors for the estimation of the position of an incident beam. The procedure is based on the adjustment of the position and gain of the elements of the array in order to approximate the desired response (in the least squares sense).

Optimal dimension reduction for sensor array signal processing
[1991] Conference Record of the Twenty-Fifth Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems & Computers, 1993The computational complexity for direction-of-arrival estimation using sensor arrays increases very rapidly with the number of sensors in the array. One way to lower the amount of computations is to employ some kind of reduction of the data dimension. This is usually accomplished by employing linear transformations for mapping full dimension data into ...

Optimization of Augmented Coprime Array for a Specific number of Sensors
2021 2nd International Conference on Range Technology (ICORT), 2021In this paper, optimization is carried out for the augmented coprime array (ACA) for a specific number of sensors to achieve maximum consecutive degrees-of-freedom (DOF). We know that ACA is a very popular configuration for direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation for its advantage of less mutual coupling.

Optimization of monolithic charged-particle sensor arrays
Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 2007Abstract Direct-detection CMOS image sensors optimized for charged-particle imaging applications, such as electron microscopy and particle physics, have been designed, fabricated and characterized. These devices directly image charged particles without reliance on image-degrading hybrid technologies such as the use of scintillating materials.

The behavior of absolutely optimal array filters for sensor arrays in the presence of noise
IEEE Transactions on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 1987A recent paper [1] described a set of array filters referred to as absolutely optimal array filters (AOAF's) to achieve the rejection of an interference from the output of an array in order to allow observation of the signal. The array filters resulted in perfect rejection of the interference while achieving an all-pass response to the signal ...

Optimal Adaptive Control of an Array of Passive Sensors
IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 1975A sensor array is treated as a spatial filter in rejecting undesired signals. The array is governed by a control law derived from the noise covariance matrix supplied by the time-varying noise field in an optimal fashion. Signal-to-noise ratio is used as the optimality criterion. The optimal control law is self-adjusted by a simple adaptive scheme. The

Optimal partially adaptive sensor array processing
IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium. 1995 Digest, 2002The problem addressed in this paper is minimum variance adaptive sensor array processing subject to limitations on the dimension of the adaptive processor. Advances in technology have made it possible for space-segment and airborne platforms to support arrays composed of many elements for communications and radar systems.

CRB-optimal sensor placement for multiple passive acoustic arrays
2013 IEEE Global Conference on Signal and Information Processing, 2013This paper describes a method for selecting the location of multiple passive acoustic arrays to optimize information collection. The passive acoustic arrays are used to localize a contact, and our goal is to choose how to situate and orient the arrays to optimize this localization estimate. To this end, we derive the Cramer-Rao bound on the variance of

Large-Scale Optimal Sensor Array Management for Multitarget Tracking
IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man and Cybernetics, Part C (Applications and Reviews), 2007In this paper, we are concerned with the problem of utilizing a large network of sensors in order to track multiple targets. Large-scale sensor array management has applications in a number of target tracking domains. For example, in ground target tracking, hundreds or even thousands of unattended ground sensors may be dropped over a large surveillance

Optimal sensor placement in range based localization for linear arrays
2012 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Biomimetics (ROBIO), 2012This paper investigates the linear separation requirements for range sensors in order to achieve the optimal performance in estimating the position of a target from multiple and typically noisy sensor measurements. We analyze the sensortarget geometry in terms of the Cramer-Rao inequality and the corresponding Fisher information matrix, in order to ...
