The ‘‘overshoot’’ effect and sensory hearing impairment
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1987The threshold for the detection of a brief tone masked by a longer-duration noise burst is higher when the tone is presented shortly after the onset of the noise than at longer delay times. This finding has been termed the ‘‘overshoot’’ effect [E. Zwicker, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 37, 653–663 (1965)].

Impairment of peripheral sensory innervation in senescence
Autonomic Neuroscience, 2002Sensorimotor disturbances are common among elderly and one of the main factors depreciating life quality in senescence. Mechanistically sensory deficits during aging include not only degenerative and regressive events but also phenotypic switches among sensory neurons as well as remodeling of sensory innervation. The pattern of changes suggests that an

Electronic sensory systems for the visually impaired
IEEE Instrumentation & Measurement Magazine, 2003In this article, I have summarized the required features in electronic sensory systems for the visually impaired (ESSVI) development and described how we have addressed these features at the Department of Electrical Electronic and System Engineering (DIEES). The "Committee on Vision" document on electronic travel aids explored the needs of the visually
