Simulation study of the influence of the outer target geometry on tungsten contamination: Horizontal vs. vertical target

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy
The core tungsten (W) concentration must be limited to an extremely low level for future fusion reactors. It was found that the effects of E × B drift can lead to a dramatic increase in the core W concentration in our recent work [J.

Data-constrained Magnetohydrodynamic Simulation of the Global Solar Corona Including Solar Wind Effects within 2.5 R⊙

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Total solar eclipses (TSEs) provide a unique opportunity to observe the large-scale solar corona. The solar wind plays an important role in forming the large-scale coronal structure, and magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations are used to reproduce it for ...

Simulating the Formation and Eruption of Flux Rope by Magneto-friction Model Driven by Time-dependent Electric Fields

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Aiming to capture the formation and eruption of flux ropes (FRs) in the source active regions (ARs), we simulate the coronal magnetic field evolution of the AR 11429 employing the time-dependent magneto-friction model (TMF).

Excitation of planetary inclinations via dynamical bifurcations driven by misaligned disks

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Context. Primordial misalignments between protoplanetary disks and their host stars’ spin axes have been proposed to be important origins of the widespread stellar obliquities observed in exoplanets. Recent works have further revealed nontrivial and rich

Enhanced plasma performance in C-2W advanced beam-driven field-reversed configuration experiments

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
TAE Technologies’ fifth-generation fusion device, C-2W (also called ‘Norman’), is the world’s largest compact-toroid device and has made significant progress in field-reversed configuration (FRC) plasma performance.

First-principle based predictions of the effects of negative triangularity on DTT scenarios

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
Plasmas with negative triangularity (NT) shape have been recently shown to be able to achieve H-mode levels of confinement in L-mode, avoiding detrimental edge localised modes.

Investigating the influence of divertor baffles on nitrogen-seeded detachment in TCV with SOLPS-ITER simulations and TCV experiments

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
Plasma edge simulations with the SOLPS-ITER code are performed to study the influence of divertor baffles on nitrogen-seeded detachment in Tokamak à Configuration Variable (TCV) single-null, L-mode discharges. Scans of nitrogen seeding rate are conducted

Characterizing impurity sourcing and transport in the high temperature boundary of DIII-D wide pedestal QH-mode plasmas

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
Wide Pedestal QH-mode (WPQH) plasmas in the DIII-D tokamak show a sheath limited SOL, where electron density and temperature remain nearly constant along field lines from the midplane to the divertor. Consequently, parallel gradients are weak.
