Toward a minimal amino acid alphabet for protein design
The FEBS Journal, EarlyView.Proteins are built from 20 canonical amino acids; however, it is interesting to investigate whether they can also be formed from reduced amino acid alphabets. Using protein design, we designed proteins based on all alphabets comprising 2 to 10 ‘early’ amino acids (those likely to have been present before the origin of life).
