Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Low-Complexity Reduced-Rank Adaptive Detection in Hybrid Direct-Sequence Time-Hopping Ultrawide Bandwidth Systems

open access: yes, 2009
— In this contribution reduced-rank adaptive minimum mean-square error multiuser detector (MMSE-MUD) is proposed and investi-gated for the hybrid direct-sequence time-hopping ultrawide bandwidth (DS-TH UWB) systems.

Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.

Habitable Zone Lifetime of Exoplanets around Main Sequence Stars

open access: yes, 2013
Funding: Dean's Scholarship at the University of East Anglia. The potential habitability of newly discovered exoplanets is initially assessed by determining whether their orbits fall within the circumstellar habitable zone of their star.

C2α‐carbanion‐protonating glutamate discloses tradeoffs between substrate accommodation and reaction rate in actinobacterial 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Enzymes of the 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase group catalyze the condensation of formyl‐CoA with aldehydes or ketones. Thus, by structural adaptation of active sites, practically any pharmaceutically and industrially important 2‐hydroxyacid could be biotechnologically synthesized. Combining crystal structure analysis, active site mutations and kinetic assays,

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Sequence-discriminative training of deep neural networks

open access: yes, 2013
Sequence-discriminative training of deep neural networks (DNNs) is investigated on a 300 hour American English conversational telephone speech task. Different sequence-discriminative criteria ndash;- maximum mutual information (MMI), minimum phone error (

Fuzzy normed linear space valued sequence space lpF (X)

open access: yes, 2017
In this article we define the notion of fuzzy normed linear space valued sequence space lFp (X), 1 ≤ p < ∞ in a fuzzy normed linear space X and discuss some of its properties like completeness, monotone, solidness, convergence free and symmetricity. Also

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.
