Identification of functional murine mitochondrial formyl peptides and their effects on myeloid‐derived suppressor cell generation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We first identified functional murine mitochondrial N‐formyl peptides (MT‐FPs) and investigated their effects on the in vitro myeloid‐derived suppressor cell (MDSC) generation from bone marrow cells. We demonstrated that MT‐FPs acted directly on bone marrow cells to promote MDSC generation and modulated the polymorphonuclear (PMN)‐MDSC/monocyte (M ...

Addressing the shortcomings of three recent bayesian methods for detecting interspecific recombination in DNA sequence alignments

open access: yes, 2008
We address a potential shortcoming of three probabilistic models for detecting interspecific recombination in DNA sequence alignments: the multiple change-point model (MCP) of Suchard et al. (2003), the dual multiple change-point model (DMCP) of Minin et

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

Reduced Space Sequence Alignment

open access: yes, 1997
Sequence alignment is the problem of finding the optimal character-by-character correspondence between two sequences. It can be readily solved in O(n²) time and O(n²) space on a serial machine, or in O(n) time with O(n) space per O(n) processing elements

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.
