Biocatalytic Regioselective C‐Formylation of Resorcinol Derivatives

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
An acyltransferase from Chromobacterium sphagni (CsATase) was identified that catalyzes the regioselective formylation of resorcinol substrates. The formylation of substituted resorcinol derivatives yielded mono‐formylated products with up to 99% conversion and up to 74% isolated yield.

Unnatural Amino Acid and Emerging Chemistry Approaches to Map RNA–Protein Interactions

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
This review highlights emerging chemistries for mapping RNA–protein interactions, including genetically encoded unnatural amino acids, novel photocrosslinkers, and non‐photoactivatable crosslinking systems. We compare their mechanisms, reactivity and applications, outlining how these next‐generation tools enable higher‐resolution, site‐specific ...

Serine metabolism in macrophage polarization

Inflammation Research, 2023
Emerging studies have revealed that macrophages possess different dependences on the uptake, synthesis, and metabolism of serine for their activation and functionalization, necessitating our insight into how serine availability and utilization impact macrophage activation and inflammatory responses. This article summarizes the reports published ...

Serine metabolism and psychosis

Psychiatry Research, 1984
Plasma serine levels (PSL) in a group of patients with the diagnosis of major or atypical psychoses were significantly higher than in patients with nonpsychotic diagnoses or nonpatient controls. The enzyme serine hydroxymethyltransferase (SHMT), which metabolizes serine to glycine, showed abnormal activity in the psychotics compared to nonpsychotics ...

Serine signaling governs metabolic homeostasis and health

Trends in Endocrinology & Metabolism, 2023
Serine has functions that are involved in metabolic homeostasis and health in pathological or stressful situations. Notably, the de novo serine synthesis pathway (SSP) plays a vital role in targeted regulation of immune responses, cell proliferation, and lipid/protein metabolism.

Metabolic control analysis of mammalian serine metabolism

Advances in Enzyme Regulation, 1990
(1) Mammalian serine metabolism is discussed in relation to its synthesis and utilization in proliferating cells, particularly during the nonmalignant proliferation of lymphocytes. (2) An analysis of the control of serine biosynthesis de novo under conditions of high pathway flux has been carried out using metabolic control theory.

Serine Metabolism After Portacaval Shunt

Archives of Surgery, 1970
Although portacaval shunt effectively controls hemorrhage from esophageal varices by control of portal hypertension, liver function does not improve and often deteriorates after diversion of portal blood from the liver. Hepatic failure is the most common cause of the excessively high mortality following portacaval shunt. The etiology of hepatic failure

Serine metabolism in Lactobacillus plantarum

International Journal of Food Microbiology, 2003
This study investigated the metabolism of (L-) serine by Lactobacillus plantarum B3089 isolated from cheese. Serine was deaminated by growing cells to ammonia with the corresponding formation of acetate and formate. Serine was also deaminated by non-growing cells to ammonia but with the formation of acetate only (no production of formate ...
