Forskolin Enhances Urokinase Plasminogen Activator Secretion and Angiogenic Activity of Xeno‐Free Cultures of Human Adipose Tissue‐Derived Stem Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
The regenerative potential of adipose tissue‐derived stem cells can be enhanced through chemical stimulation in vitro. A short stimulation protocol using forskolin, either alone or in combination with other growth factors, under xeno‐free conditions enhanced the pro‐angiogenic responses in human ASCs.

Functional proteomic profiling reveals KLK13 and TMPRSS11D as active proteases in the lower female reproductive tract [version 2; referees: 2 approved]

open access: yesF1000Research, 2018
Background: Cervical-vaginal fluid (CVF) hydrates the mucosa of the lower female reproductive tract and is known to contain numerous proteases. The low pH of CVF (4.5 or below in healthy women of reproductive age) is a uniquely human attribute and poses ...

TMPRSS4, a type II transmembrane serine protease, as a potential therapeutic target in cancer

open access: yesExperimental and Molecular Medicine, 2023
Proteases are involved in almost all biological processes, implying their importance for both health and pathological conditions. Dysregulation of proteases is a key event in cancer.

Serine proteases and serine protease inhibitors in testicular physiology: the plasminogen activation system [PDF]

open access: yesReproduction, 2007
The testis is an organ in which a series of radical remodeling events occurs during development and in adult life. These events likely rely on a sophisticated network of proteases and complementary inhibitors, including the plasminogen activation system. This review summarizes our current knowledge on the testicular occurrence and expression pattern of

Antibody‐Programmable Bimetallic Nanozymes for Transcriptional Blockade Therapy in HER2/ER‐Positive Breast Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Zr‐Fe MOF@Ribociclib@Herceptin (ZFRH) efficiently targets/kills Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor 2/Estrogen Receptor‐positive (HER2/ER+) breast cancer cells. It combats tumors by: 1) Elevating ROS, altering redox balance; 2) Inhibiting transcription; 3) Inducing pyroptosis.

Virtual Screening of Transmembrane Serine Protease Inhibitors

open access: yesBio-Protocol, 2017
The human family of type II transmembrane serine proteases includes 17 members. The defining features of these proteases are an N-terminal transmembrane domain and a C-terminal serine protease of the chymotrypsin (S1) fold, separated from each other by a

Site-directed mutagenesis of the proposed catalytic amino acids of the Sindbis virus capsid protein autoprotease [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
The structural proteins of Sindbis virus are translated as a polyprotein precursor that is cleaved upon translation. The capsid protein is postulated to be a serine protease that releases itself from the N terminus of the nascent polyprotein by ...

Strain-dependent porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) entry and replication in T-lymphoblasts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) is the etiological agent of PCV2-associated diseases (PCVAD). PCV2 targets lymphoblasts, and pigs suffering from PCVAD display lymphocyte depletion in lymphoid tissues. PCV2 infection of lymphoblasts has not been studied.

An Organ‐on‐Chip Platform for Strain‐Controlled, Tissue‐Specific Compression of Cartilage and Mineralized Osteochondral Interface to Study Mechanical Overloading in Osteoarthritis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A mechanically active OsteoChondral Unit (OCU)‐on‐Chip platform mimicking the OCU's functional anatomy and the strain gradient across the osteochondral interface is presented. Upon compartment‐specific hyperphysiological compression, the model replicates mechanisms observed in osteoarthritis (OA) progression, such as calcium crystal accumulation ...

Serine Protease Autotransporters of Enterobacteriaceae (SPATEs): Biogenesis and Function

open access: yesToxins, 2010
Serine Protease Autotransporters of Enterobacteriaceae (SPATEs) constitute a large family of proteases secreted by Escherichia coli and Shigella. SPATEs exhibit two distinct proteolytic activities.
