The role of GABAB(1) receptor isoforms in anxiety and depression : genetic and pharmacological studies in the mouse [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Anxiety and depression disorders represent common, serious and growing health problems world-wide. The neurobiological basis of anxiety and depression, however, remains poorly understood.

Toward Chromoselective Transformations in Biological Systems: Perspectives and Challenges

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
Controlling biological systems with small‐molecule chromophores has evolved into a powerful strategy and is applied from chemical biology to medicine. However, the complexity of in vivo systems cannot be matched by a single wavelength of light. Developing methods to combine and individually control multiple chromophores is crucial.

Role of Serotonin Neurons in L-DOPA- and Graft-Induced Dyskinesia in a Rat Model of Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesParkinson's Disease, 2012
L-DOPA, the most effective drug to treat motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease, causes abnormal involuntary movements, limiting its use in advanced stages of the disease.

Beyond the Outburst: Charting a New Frontier for Understanding and Treating Irritability in Autistic Adults

open access: yesAutism Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Irritability is a prevalent and impairing feature associated with autism, yet remains poorly understood, particularly in adults. Drawing heavily on insights translated from pediatric and transdiagnostic literatures, we propose that irritability in autistic individuals often reflects a psychophysiological stress or threat response, rooted in a ...

A computational pipeline for a neurotransmitter-centric analysis of the effects of psychiatric medication on EEG spectral power

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychiatry
IntroductionTraditional pharmaco-electroencephalography (EEG) studies have mainly examined the effects of psychotropic medications at the level of individual drugs or broad drug classes, limiting biological specificity and clinical translation.

Neurovascular coupling in bone regeneration: Mechanisms, advanced biomaterials and challenges

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
This figure illustrates various material strategies for neurovascularized bone regeneration, including electroactive scaffolds, ion‐loaded materials, drug delivery systems, surface modifications, cells/cell products, growth factors, and peptides. These approaches aim to synergistically promote the regeneration of neural, vascular, and bone tissues ...

Effects of Serotonergic Agonists and Antagonists on the Competitive Behaviour of Rats [PDF]

open access: yesRecords of Pharmaceutical & Biomedical Sciences
SWhen  animals  are  housed  in  a  group,  they  form  social  hierarchy,  which  may have a great influence on the cognitive abilities and health of the individuals of this group. The rank order of this social hierarchy may have its consequences on the

On the importance of including both sexes in animal studies – insights from home‐cage monitoring

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A review of behavioural studies using home‐cage monitoring (HCM) systems revealed that over 61% of studies used only male subjects, with only 24% including both sexes, despite evidence of substantial behavioural differences between male and female animals. This bias could influence the outcomes of biomedical research.
