Pneumococcal carriage, serotype distribution and risk factors in children with community-acquired pneumonia, 5 years after introduction of the 10-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine in Ethiopia [PDF]
Background: There is a scarcity of data on pneumococcal serotypes carried by children in Ethiopia. We studied pneumococcal nasopharyngeal carriage rate, serotypes, and risk factors among children with community acquired pneumonia (CAP).

Invasive Streptococcus pneumoniae in Children, Malawi, 2004–2006
Of 176 invasive Streptococcus pneumoniae isolates from children in Malawi, common serotypes were 1 (23%), 6A/B (18%), 14 (6%), and 23F (6%). Coverage with the 7-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) was 39%; PCV10 and PCV13 increased coverage to 66%

Invasive Pneumococcal Disease in Adults in Portugal: The Importance of Serotypes 8 and 3 (2015–2018)
Increasing the uptake of the 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) in children is expected to alter the serotypes causing invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) in adults due to herd protection.

Quantitative Prediction of Linear B-Cell Epitopes [PDF]
In scientific literature, there are many programs that predict linear B-cell epitopes from a protein sequence. Each program generates multiple B-cell epitopes that can be individually studied. This paper defines a function called

Two New Salmonella Serotypes (Serotype malakal and Serotype khartoum) Isolated from Dogs [PDF]
Two new Salmonella serotypes, Salmonella sp. serotype malakal and Salmonella sp. serotype khartoum, have been isolated from mesenteric lymph nodes of apparently healthy dogs in the Sudan, and they belong to Salmonella subgenus I. The antigenic formulae of these serotypes are: S. malakal = 16: e,h: 1,2; S. khartoum = (3),(15), 34: a : 1,7.

Isolation site influences virulence phenotype of serotype 14 Streptococcus pneumoniae strains belonging to multilocus sequence type 15 [PDF]
Streptococcus pneumoniae is a diverse species causing invasive as well as localized infections that result in massive global morbidity and mortality. Strains vary markedly in pathogenic potential, but the molecular basis is obscured by the diversity and ...

Genetic Characterization of Foot-and-Mouth Disease Viruses, Ethiopia, 1981–2007
Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is endemic to sub-Saharan Africa. To further understand its complex epidemiology, which involves multiple virus serotypes and host species, we characterized the viruses recovered from FMD outbreaks in Ethiopia during 1981 ...
