Construction and Characterization of Adenovirus Serotype 5 Packaged by Serotype 3 Hexon [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 2002
ABSTRACT Adenovirus serotype 5 (Ad5) has great potential for gene therapy applications. A major limitation, however, is the host immune response against Ad5 infection that often prevents the readministration of Ad5 vectors. In this regard, the most abundant capsid protein, hexon, has been implicated as the major target for neutralizing ...

Capsular Serotyping of Streptococcus pneumoniae Using the Quellung Reaction

open access: yesJournal of Visualized Experiments, 2014
There are over 90 different capsular serotypes of Streptococcus pneumoniae (the pneumococcus). As well as being a tool for understanding pneumococcal epidemiology, capsular serotyping can provide useful information for vaccine efficacy and impact studies.

Generation and selection of anti-flagellin monoclonal antibodies useful for serotyping Salmonella enterica [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In developing countries, bacterial acute gastroenteritis continues to be an important cause of morbidity and mortality among young children. Salmonellosis constitutes a major cause of infectious enteritis worldwide, most of them associated to the ...

Single‐Cell Transcriptome Analysis Reveals That Hmga2 Regulates Neuroinflammation and Retinal Function by Modulating Müller Cell Autophagy Through PI3K/AKT Signaling Following MCAO‐Induced Retinal Ischemia

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Employing snRNA‐seq post‐MCAO‐induced retinal ischemia (RI), this study revealed a novel Hmga2‐high Müller cell subpopulation. Hmga2 knockout alleviated neuroinflammation and RI symptoms, potentially by binding PI3K and regulating Müller cell autophagy.

Counterbalancing O‐GlcNAcylation and STAT3 Phosphorylation in Ventral Tegmental Area Dopaminergic Neurons Mediates Behavioral Adaptations to Acute Restraint Stress

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Acute restraint stress enhances STAT3Ser727 phosphorylation in dopaminergic neurons in mice. This modification promotes the upregulation of GABBR2 and GABRB3, reduces neuronal activity, and contributes to anxiety‐like behavior and diminished reward‐seeking following stress exposure.

Fourth Human Parechovirus Serotype [PDF]

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2006
We identified a novel human parechovirus (HPeV) type (K251176-02) from a neonate with fever. Analysis of the complete genome showed K251176-02 to be a new HPeV genotype. Since K251176-02 could not be neutralized with antibodies against known HPeV serotypes 1-3, it should be classified as a fourth HPeV serotype.

Deficiency of SCAMP5 Triggers Pancreatic β‐Cell Secretory Dysfunction and Apoptosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that hyperglycemia in diabetes activates ChREBP, which epigenetically represses SCAMP5 expression in pancreatic β‐cells. This SCAMP5 deficiency impairs insulin secretion by downregulating the calcium channel CaV1.2. Furthermore, reduced SCAMP5 triggers β‐cell apoptosis by stabilizing VDAC1 and enhancing its interaction with Bax,

Characterisation and comparison of Pasteurella multocida isolated from different species in the Czech Republic: capsular PCR typing, ribotyping and dermonecrotoxin production

open access: yesVeterinární Medicína, 2005
The aim of this study was to characterise and compare Pasteurella multocida isolates originating from pigs (n = 43), calves (n = 31), rabbits (n = 27), and to a lesser extent from other hosts (n = 6). A total of 107 P.

Capsular Serotyping of Streptococcus pneumoniae by Latex Agglutination

open access: yesJournal of Visualized Experiments, 2014
Latex agglutination reagents are widely used in microbial diagnosis, identification and serotyping. Streptococcus pneumoniae (the pneumococcus) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality world-wide.

Diversity and Dynamics of Indigenous \u3cem\u3eRhizobium japonicum\u3c/em\u3e Populations [PDF]

open access: yes, 1980
A simple method, based upon the separation of cellular proteins by sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, has been devised for distinguishing between isolates of Rhizobium japonicum.
