Morphological evidence for calcium stores at Sertoli-Sertoli and Sertoli-spermatid interrelations

Cell Biology International Reports, 1985
Potassium pyroantimonate technique has been employed to localize calcium ultrastructurally at Sertoli-Sertoli and Sertoli-spermatid junctional specializations. Identification of Ca++ as the major cation precipitated was performed by EGTA sensitivity and X-ray microprobe analysis.

Hepatocyte growth factor modulates Sertoli–Sertoli tight junction dynamics

Journal of Cellular Physiology, 2008
AbstractIn mammalian testes Sertoli cells form tight junctions whose function is fundamental for the maintenance of a normal spermatogenesis. Hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) is a cytokine influencing the cellular tight junctions either in normal or in tumor cells.

Three‐dimensional reconstruction of a rat stage V Sertoli cell: II. Morphometry of Sertoli–Sertoli and Sertoli–germ‐cell relationships

American Journal of Anatomy, 1983
AbstractSertoli–Sertoli and Sertoli–germ‐cell configurational relationships were studied using morphometric techniques and direct measurements as obtained from micrographs used to reconstruct a model of a rat stage V Sertoli cell. Regional areas of the Sertoli cell surface, which faced germ cells, other Sertoli cells, or noncellular structures, were ...

Sertoli cell testicular tumors

Urology, 1981
The testicular Sertoli cell tumor is generally considered a benign tumor that can be treated by orchiectomy and close follow-up. It accounts for less than 1.5 per cent of testis tumors and may be malignant in 10 per cent of cases. Approximately 30 per cent have endocrine activity. We present 5 additional cases to the 75 previously reported in the world

Sertoli‐Sertoli junctions and Sertoli‐spermatid junctions after efferent ductule ligation and lanthanum treatment

American Journal of Anatomy, 1977
AbstractSeminiferous tubules, partially dilated by ligation of the efferent ductules, were examined after treatment with lanthanum. Lanthanum penetrated the intercellular spaces of the seminiferous epithelium, but only to the level of the Sertoli‐Sertoli junctions.

Sertoli Cell

2018
There is more than a century and a half that the polarized Sertoli cell which extends from the base of the seminiferous tubule to its lumen has been identified as being a “nurse cell” for germ cells. This Sertoli cell nursing function relies on a cytosqueleton displaying all possible properties of plasticity to adapt to the cyclicity of spermatogenesis,

2007
Objective. Inhibin- (Inh- ) is produced by Sertoli cells and controls FSH secretion through a negative feedback mechanism. The role of Inh- as a diagnostic tool in Male infertility is not fully elucidated. The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical value of basal and stimulated serum Inh- levels as a marker of Sertoli cell function ...

Sertoli cell types in the Sertoli‐cell‐only syndrome: relationships between Sertoli cell morphology and aetiology

Histopathology, 1990
Histological study of testicular biopsies from infertile men showing Sertoli‐cell‐only tubules due to hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, cryptorchidism, oestrogen treatment, chemotherapy or Del Castillo's syndrome, revealed four types of Sertoli cells: (1) normal adult mature cells showing an indented nucleus, grossly triangular in shape with a prominent ...
