Bovine Serum Albumin as A Superior “FP-Tag” for High-Throughput Glycosyltransferase Assay

open access: yes, 2020
Here, we report the development of a high-throughput “FP-Tag” OGT assay with bovine serum albumin as a low-cost and superior “FP-Tag”. With this assay, 2-methyleurotinone was identified as a low M-range OGT inhibitor.

Anionic Calixarene-Capped Silver Nanoparticles Show Species-Dependent Binding to Serum Albumins

open access: yesMolecules, 2013
The anionic calixarenes para-sulphonatocalix[4]arene and 1,3-di-Ophosphonatocalix[ 4]arene, have been used to cap silver nanoparticles. The binding of these functional particles with regard to various serum albumins (bovine serum albumin, human serum ...

Allosteric modulation of zinc speciation by fatty acids [PDF]

open access: yes
Background: Serum albumin is the major protein component of blood plasma and is responsible for the circulatory transport of a range of small molecules that include fatty acids, hormones, metal ions and drugs.

Denaturation studies on bovine serum albumin–bile salt system: Bile salt stabilizes bovine serum albumin through hydrophobicity

open access: yesJournal of Pharmaceutical Analysis, 2018
Protein denaturation is under intensive research, since it leads to neurological disorders of severe consequences. Avoiding denaturation and stabilizing the proteins in their native state is of great importance, especially when proteins are used as drug ...

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Bovine thrombin enhances the efficiency and specificity of polymerase chain reaction

open access: yesBioTechniques, 2014
The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) has become one of the central techniques in molecular biology since its invention. However, PCR can be fraught with difficulties in various situations, and it is desirable to find novel PCR enhancers suitable for ...

Probing the behavior and kinetic studies of amphiphilic acrylate copolymers with bovine serum albumin

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
This article presents that acrylate copolymers are the potential candidate against the adsorption of bovine serum albumin (BSA). A series of copolymers poly(methyl methacrylate) (pMMA), poly(3-sulfopropyl methacrylate-co-methyl methacrylate) p(SPMA-co ...

Dual PI3K/AKT and CDK4/6 inhibition reveals selective sensitivity in an SHH medulloblastoma stem cell model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Targeted therapy was evaluated in SHH medulloblastoma using neuroepithelial stem cell (NES) and tumor‐derived NES‐like (tNES) models in 2D monolayers and 3D spheroids. PI3K, AKT, and CDK4/6 inhibitors had minimal effects in NES but markedly reduced viability and growth and induced apoptosis in tNES cells, revealing distinct therapeutic vulnerabilities.

An albumin-derived peptide scaffold capable of binding and catalysis

open access: yes, 2012
We have identified a 101-amino-acid polypeptide derived from the sequence surrounding the IIA binding site of human albumin. The polypeptide contains residues that make contact with ligands as warfarin in the parent protein, and eight cysteine residues ...

Application of terahertz spectroscopy to the characterization of biological samples using birefringence silicon grating [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We present a device and method for performing vector transmission spectroscopy on biological specimens at terahertz (THz) frequencies. The device consists of artificial dielectric birefringence obtained from silicon microfluidic grating structures. The
