Aldolase activity of serum albumins

Organic & Biomolecular Chemistry, 2011
Bovine and human serum albumins catalyze the aldol reaction of aromatic aldehyedes and acetone, with saturation kinetics and moderate and opposite enantioselectivity. The reaction occurs at the binding site in domain IIa, and is inhibited by warfarin. Kinetic data are consistent with an enamine mechanism.

Structure of Serum Albumin

1994
Publisher Summary This chapter provides an insight of the findings of past significant papers with the current knowledge of the recently determined high resolution X-ray structure of serum albumin. The most outstanding property of albumin is its ability to bind reversibly an incredible variety of ligands.

Albumin Naskapi: A New Variant of Serum Albumin

Science, 1966
An apparently new variant of human serum albumin, albumin Naskapi, has been found in high frequency in the Naskapi Indians of Quebec and, in lower frequency, in other North American Indians. The family and population data of the albumin are consistent with its inheritance as a simple autosomal trait controlled by a gene designated

Albumin Mexico, a New Variant of Serum Albumin

Nature, 1967
AN inherited variant of albumin (albumin Naskapi) has recently been described which has an electrophoretic mobility greater than that of common albumin (albumin A)1. This variant is relatively common in many North American Indian tribes, but it has not been found in the United States white and negro sera so far tested, nor in many European sera.

Serum albumin in pig epididymis

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology, 1968
1. 1. The proteins of the fluid of the tail of the epididymis (ETF) in boars (Sus scrofa ferus—forma domestica males) were compared with serum proteins by means of acrylamide gel electrophoresis. 2. 2. In ETF a fraction was found which corresponded in its mobility to serum albumin. 3. 3.

Catalytic properties of serum albumin

Pharmacological Research Communications, 1983
In this work it has been observed that human blood plasma is able to catalyse the reaction between tert.butyl hydroperoxide and 2-nitro-5-mercaptobenzoic acid. The purification of a proteic fraction responsible for this activity indicated it is due to plasma albumin; this is also demonstrated using various purified commercial albumins.

Preparation of Serum Albumin Microcapsules

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1985
Simple coacervation of bovine serum albumin was studied to prepare biodegradable microcapsules. Three types of microcapsules, which differed in shape, were obtained by changing either core size or the bovine serum albumin concentrations of the coacervating systems.

Dendrimers Bind Human Serum Albumin

The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2009
Dendrimers are synthetic, highly branched, spherical macromolecules with nanometer dimensions and potential applications in DNA and drug delivery systems. Human serum albumin (HSA) is a major transporter for delivering several endogenous compounds and drugs in vivo.

Serum Albumin: Polymorphism in Man

Science, 1964
Serums from 1015 individuals, mainly Norwegians, were studied by starch-gel electrophoresis. All but one showed the same albumin phenotype. The appearance of the exceptional sample on starch gel fits with that of a heterozygote. A genetic theory of two alleles Al F and

Redox properties of serum albumin

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 2013
Oxidative damage results in protein modification, and is observed in numerous diseases. Human serum albumin (HSA), the most abundant circulating protein in the plasma, exerts important antioxidant activities against oxidative damage. The present review focuses on the characterization of chemical changes in HSA that are induced by oxidative damage, their
