Quantification of the difference between pre-dialysis and post-dialysis serum albumin measurement and its relationship to intra-dialytic weight gain

open access: yesKidney Research and Clinical Practice, 2012
Haemodialysis patients may have low albumin levels due to a cascade of factors, including inflammation and reduced dietary intake. Albumin is commonly used in clinical settings by dieticians as part of a comprehensive nutritional assessment.

Concentration Dependence of Elastic and Viscoelastic Properties of Aqueous Solutions of Ficoll and Bovine Serum Albumin by Brillouin Light Scattering Spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
The cellular environment is crowded with macromolecules of different shapes and sizes. The effect of this macromolecular crowding has been studied in a variety of synthetic crowding environments: two popular examples are the compact colloid-like Ficoll macromolecule, and the globular protein bovine serum albumin (BSA).

TOMM20 as a driver of cancer aggressiveness via oxidative phosphorylation, maintenance of a reduced state, and resistance to apoptosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TOMM20 increases cancer aggressiveness by maintaining a reduced state with increased NADH and NADPH levels, oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), and apoptosis resistance while reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. Conversely, CRISPR‐Cas9 knockdown of TOMM20 alters these cancer‐aggressive traits.

Estimation of serum albumin levels associated with chronic periodontitis in elderly subjects - A cross sectional study

open access: yesSRM Journal of Research in Dental Sciences, 2012
Aim: The present study was conducted to evaluate the association between serum albumin and chronic periodontitis in elderly individuals. Methodology: Sixty systemically healthy subjects in the age group of fifty and above were included in the study ...

Cavity optomechanical transduction sensing of single molecules [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We report narrow linewidth optomechanical oscillation of a silica microsphere immersed in a buffer solution. Through a novel optomechanical transduction sensing approach, single 10-nm-radius silica beads and Bovine serum albumin (BSA) protein molecules with a molecular weight of 66 kDalton were detected.

The atypical KRASQ22K mutation directs TGF‐β response towards partial epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in patient‐derived colorectal cancer tumoroids

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TGF‐β has a complex role in cancer, exhibiting both tumor‐suppressive and tumor‐promoting properties. Using a series of differentiated tumoroids, derived from different stages and mutational background of colorectal cancer patients, we replicate this duality of TGF‐β in vitro. Notably, the atypical but highly aggressive KRASQ22K mutation rendered early‐

ToF-SIMS Investigations on Dental Implant Materials and Adsorbed Protein Films [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2011
In this work the two experimental dental implant materials FAT and FAW, made of fluoroapatite particles embedded in polymer matrices, and films of the proteins lysozyme, amylase and bovine serum albumin (BSA), adsorbed to the two dental implant materials, were investigated with time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) and the ...

ShcD adaptor protein drives invasion of triple negative breast cancer cells by aberrant activation of EGFR signaling

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identified adaptor protein ShcD as upregulated in triple‐negative breast cancer and found its expression to be correlated with reduced patient survival and increased invasion in cell models. Using a proteomic screen, we identified novel ShcD binding partners involved in EGFR signaling pathways.

Microsphere solid state biolasers [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Microsphere solid-state biolasers made of biomaterials-bovine serum albumin, pectin and cellulose are demonstrated. The fabrication is simple, based on emulsion, and with green processing. A lasing threshold of 1 microJ/mm2 and Q factor of 3000 are measured. The lasers are biocompatible, do not interfere with cell growth and division.

Inhibitor of DNA binding‐1 is a key regulator of cancer cell vasculogenic mimicry

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Elevated expression of transcriptional regulator inhibitor of DNA binding 1 (ID1) promoted cancer cell‐mediated vasculogenic mimicry (VM) through regulation of pro‐angiogenic and pro‐cancerous genes (e.g. VE‐cadherin (CDH5), TIE2, MMP9, DKK1). Higher ID1 expression also increased metastases to the lung and the liver.
