Metabolism of antimalarial sesquiterpene lactones
Pharmacology & Therapeutics, 1990Metabolism of artemisinin derivatives, which are antimalarial sesquiterpenes, appeared to lead to the production of the more polar metabolites in general. Presence of the endoperoxide moiety in the A/B ring structure seems crucial for the expression of antimalarial activity of these compounds.

Abstract Two routes towards (±) quadrone ( 1 ), via an intramolecular Diels-Alder reaction have been studied. The cycloaddition of 5 failed, probably because of prohibitive strain. In the alternative approach, the key step afforded a mixture of the endo- and exo-adducts 6 and 7 .

Ovatifolin, a sesquiterpene lactone
Journal of Crystal and Molecular Structure, 1977Ovatifolin, C17H22O5, is a sesquiterpene lactone isolated from the aerial parts ofPodanthus mitiqui Lindl. (Compositae) collected near Pichidangui, Chile. Extracts of the plant exhibit cytotoxic activity against KB cell cultures. The pale yellow crystals belong to the orthorhombic space groupP212121 with cell dimensionsa = 8.159(1),b = 6.640(1), andc =

Sesquiterpene lactones from Artemisia mongolica
Phytochemistry, 2022Twelve undescribed sesquiterpene lactones and seven known sesquiterpene lactones were isolated from the whole plant of Artemisia mongolica. Their structures were elucidated based on the interpretation of NMR, HRESIMS, and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) data.

Sesquiterpene lactones of Centaurea scoparia
Phytochemistry, 1998From the ethanolic extract of the aerial parts of Centaurea scoparia four new sesquiterpene lactones, belonging to the guaiane class, were isolated and identified, together with a known germacranolide. The structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods including one- and two-dimensional NMR studies.

Contact Dermatitis Caused by Sesquiterpene Lactones
Dermatitis, 1998Compositae dermatitis involves workers such as gardeners, florists, and farmers, and less commonly people not employed in occupations at risk.To report a case of contact sensitization caused by Compositae, the source of sensitization being both pesticides and plants.A 65-year-old man, whose hobby was gardening, was affected by a chronic eczema of the ...

Review of the analytical techniques for sesquiterpenes and sesquiterpene lactones
Journal of Chromatography A, 2002In this paper the analytical techniques of about the last 2 decades for sesquiterpenes including their lactones are reviewed. For sesquiterpenes, methods like GC, GC-EI-MS, GC-CI-MS, GC-MS-MS, GC-FT-IR, GC-UV, GC-AES, 13C-NMR, PY-GC-MS, HPLC, HPLC-TSP, SFE, SFC, SFC-UV are available, GC combined with MS is the most widespread.

Sesquiterpene Lactones in Compositae [PDF]
The degree to which modern techniques of chemical analysis and structure determi1nation have contributed to the development of our knowledge of plant constituents is aptly illustrated by considering recent developments in sesquiterpene chemistry. Comparison of the relatively small sesquiterpene section in Simonsen’s classic treatise1) with the ever ...

Abstract Hymenoclea salsola T. and G. (fam. Compositae, tribe Ambrosieae) contains ambrosin (1), neo-ambrosin (III), coronopilin (IV), dihydrocoronopilin (V), and ilicic acid (II), as well as several additional compounds still to be characterized. The close phylogenetic relationship of Hymenoclea and Ambrosia species indicated by morphological ...
