Strategies for Retrovirus-Based Correction of Severe, Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID)
2012Severe combined immunodeficiencies (SCIDs) appear as optimal disease targets to challenge potential efficacy of gene therapy. Ex vivo, retrovirally mediated gene transfer into hematopoietic progenitor cells has been shown to provide sustained correction of two forms of SCID, that is, SCID-X1 and adenosine deaminase deficiencies.

[Newborn screening for severe combined immunodeficiencies (SCID) in Germany].
Bundesgesundheitsblatt, Gesundheitsforschung, Gesundheitsschutz, 2023Patients with a severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) harbor genetic mutations disrupting T cell immunity and hence suffer severe, life-threatening infections or manifestations of immune dysregulation within the first months of their life. The only cure is to correct their immune system, usually by means of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation ...

Split Chimerism in Three Patients Suffering from Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID)
1980Three children, suffering from SCID, were lacking a genotypically identical sibling. One of them demonstrated spontaneous graft-versus-host (GvH) reaction due to a maternofetal transfusion. They were transplanted with the marrow of the HLA-A-mismatched but otherwise identical mother (1), with that of the completely mismatched mother in the case of ...

Transplantation of Lymphoid Cells in Patients with Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID)
1980The effects of bone marrow or fetal lymphoid organ transplants in 15 patients with severe combined immunodeficiency disease are reported. The benefits and dangers inherent to the various transplantation strategies are discussed. Our studies indicate that, even in the group of patients with B cells, bone marrow transplantation may be the best procedure ...

Multiplication of human-derivedPneumocystis carinii in severe combined immunodeficient (SCID) mice
Experientia, 1992Clinically healthy SCID mice were infected intratracheally with Pneumocystis carinii (PC) of human origin. The data obtained provides unambiguous evidence that progressive multiplication of PC organisms of human origin takes place in the lungs of experimentally infected animals.
