Gas distribution in shallow packed beds [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
Packed beds have many industrial applications and are increasingly used in the process industries due to their low pressure drop. With the introduction of more efficient packings, novel packing materials (i.e. adsorbents) and new applications (i.e. flue gas desulphurisation); the aspect ratio (height to diameter) of such beds is decreasing.

Research Progress on Shallow Gas Exploration

open access: yesJournal of Progress in Civil Engineering
Shallow gas is widely distributed across the globe, accounting for 20% of the total number of gas fields worldwide. By the end of 2005, it had accounted for 23% of the world’s proven recoverable natural gas reserves. As exploitable resources in the medium-deep layers decrease and the demand for natural gas extraction continues to rise, the development ...

Ion Concentration and Voltage Imaging With Fluorescent Nanodiamonds

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We demonstrate reversible switching between the fluorescent NV0 and the dark NV+ state, in sub‐30 nm FNDs via surface oxidation and hydrogenation, respectively. In an electrochemical cell, we show that the fluorescence from hydrogenated particles enables all‐optical imaging of voltages and ion concentrations at the micrometer scale.

Elasticity‐Driven Periodic Polarization Patterns in a Chiral Ferroelectric Nematic Fluid

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Chiral polar ferroelectric nematic fluids exhibit spontaneous formation of stripe, square, and hexagonal polarization textures under confinement. Controlled by thickness and anchoring, these patterns produce spatially modulated nonlinear optical responses.
