Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Object detection based on scale-invariant partial shape matching

open access: yes, 2015
This paper aims at detecting objects via a partial shape matching in unlabeled real images. As both the scale and consistent fragment extraction are troublesome issues in computer vision, we first extract the corresponding parts of pairs of matching ...

Video Event Detection Based on Over-segmented STV Regions

open access: yes, 2011
Real-world environment introduces many variations into video recordings such as changing illumination and object dynamics. In this paper, a technique for abstracting useful spatio-temporal features from graph-based segmentation operations has been ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Statistical shape analysis for bio-structures : local shape modelling, techniques and applications [PDF]

open access: yes
A Statistical Shape Model (SSM) is a statistical representation of a shape obtained from data to study variation in shapes. Work on shape modelling is constrained by many unsolved problems, for instance, difficulties in modelling local versus global ...

Rotationally invariant 3D shape contexts using asymmetry patterns [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This paper presents an approach to resolve the azimuth ambiguity of 3D Shape Contexts (3DSC) based on asymmetry patterns. We show that it is possible to provide rotational invariance to 3DSC at the expense of a marginal increase in computational load ...

Dynamic distance-based shape features for gait recognition

open access: yes, 2014
We propose a novel skeleton-based approachto gait recognition. The core of our method consists ofemploying the screened Poisson equation for construct-ing a family of smooth distance functions associatedwith a given shape.

Efficient contour-based shape representation and matching [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
This paper presents an efficient method for calculating the similarity between 2D closed shape contours. The proposed algorithm is invariant to translation, scale change and rotation.
