On the shear deformation theory for dynamic analysis of beams

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1985
Timoshenko's shear deformation theory is widely used for the dynamical analysis of shear-flexible beams. This paper presents a comparative study of the shear deformation theory with a higher order model, of which Timoshenko's shear deformation model is a special case.

Derivation of Plate Theory Accounting Asymptotically Correct Shear Deformation

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1997
The focus of this paper is the development of linear, asymptotically correct theories for inhomogeneous orthotropic plates, for example, laminated plates with orthotropic laminae. It is noted that the method used can be easily extended to develop nonlinear theories for plates with generally anisotropic inhomogeneity.

Including Transverse Shear Deformation in Laminate Theory

1999
The classical theory of laminates (Chapter 14) based on Kirchoff’s hypothesis allows us to describe, with a good precision, the stress and strain fields in laminates that are not very thick, except in the little extended region near the free edges of the laminates.
