Shear Modulus Property Characterization of Nanorods
Nano Letters, 2012We demonstrate an innovative technique for the direct measurement on the shear modulus of an individual nanorod. This measurement is based on atomic force microscopy (AFM) and microfabrication techniques. A nanorod is first aligned along the edge of a small trench in a silicon substrate, and then one end of the nanorod is fixed on the substrate.

The Shear Modulus of Liquid Foam
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1984A strain energy function for liquid foam is formulated by modeling foam as a collection of randomly oriented surfaces with surface tension on the faces. The surfaces are assumed to follow the mean strain. It is assumed that surface forces equilibriate between neighboring elements and hence that the value of surface tension γ is the same on all faces ...

Several studies have been developed aiming to understand the behavior of saturated natural soils under small strains. A few studies have considered unsaturated soils, in most cases compacted soils and, eventually, disregarding the influence of suction in the analyses.

Shear modulus of fluids and solids
Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 1997Abstract The shear modulus tensor, whose components are Voigt elastic moduli, is expressed as an N-particle average. The Born-Green and the fluctuation contributions are identified and, where possible, also expressed in terms of integrals over the pair-correlation function.

Shear Modulus of a Polymer Brush
Macromolecules, 2010Eighteen years ago, Fredrickson et al. [Macromolecules 1992, 25, 2882−2889] predicted that a molten polymer brush possesses a shear modulus that would cause its surface structure to deviate from a liquid. Their prediction, though broadly used, has been largely unchecked.

On the nature of the shear viscosity and shear modulus relaxation in metallic glasses
Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, 2013Analysis of independent isothermal and linear heating creep and shear modulus measurements performed on bulk Pd- and Zr-based metallic glasses provides evidence that the relaxation of their viscoelastic and elastic properties is controlled by 'defects', which respond to stress and temperature similarly to dumbbell interstitials in simple crystalline ...

Shear elastic modulus of graphite
Journal of Physics C: Solid State Physics, 1983The shear elastic modulus C44 of graphite has been determined by Brillouin scattering from surface waves. The author's value agrees with that obtained from neutron scattering experiments but differs from those determined by ultrasonic technique.

Longitudinal Shear Deformation of Composites— Effective Shear Modulus
Journal of Composite Materials, 1970An exact analytical solution is given for a case of longitudinal shear loading of an unidirectional fiber reinforced composite. The analysis takes into account random spacing between fibers, random variation of fiber radii, and the variation in shear modulus from fiber to fiber.

Shear Modulus Testing of Composites
1987Fibre reinforced composite materials are generally anisotropic and heterogeneous, and hence possess mechanical properties which are dependent on the structure of the material and on the orientation of the load to the reinforcement. The shear modulus of these materials is usually different in each of the three mutually orthogonal planes and varies ...

Measure of Young's modulus and shear modulus on LAMINAM specimens
2013The purpose of this activity was the measure of Young's modulus and shear modulus, used to calculate Poisson's ratio of ceramic specimens supplied by the customer.
