Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Design and Evaluation of a Single-Span Bridge Using Ultra- High Performance Concrete;TR-529, September 2009 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Research presented herein describes an application of a newly developed material called Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) to a single-span bridge. The two primary objectives of this research were to develop a shear design procedure for possible code

Finite Element Analysis of the Shear Performance of Reinforced Concrete Corbels under Different Design Codes

open access: yesBuildings
This study aimed to investigate the shear performance of reinforced concrete corbels and to evaluate the accuracy and safety of the Chinese code GB 50010-2010’s triangular truss model and the American code ACI 318-19’s strut-and-tie model under various ...

Loss of proton‐sensing TDAG8 increases tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the pH‐sensing receptor TDAG8 accelerates colorectal cancer progression in mice. Animals lacking TDAG8 expression had increased tumor growth, DNA damage, and recruitment of tumor‐associated immune cells, including macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes.

A shear-stress responsive nano-container to target critically constricted arteries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Atherosclerosis and associated cardiovascular diseases are the world's biggest cause of mortality. During the acute case of heart attack, vasodilators are administered to open up the constricted artery and allow blood perfusion to the surrounding tissue.

Numerical Investigation of the Pull-Out and Shear Mechanical Characteristics and Support Effectiveness of Yielding Bolt in a Soft Rock Tunnel

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Conventional bolts frequently fail under large deformations due to stress concentration in soft rock tunnels. In contrast, yielding bolts incorporate energy-absorbing mechanisms to sustain controlled plastic deformation.

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Shear capacity of reinforced concrete beams using neural network [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
NoOptimum multi-layered feed-forward neural network (NN) models using a resilient back-propagation algorithm and early stopping technique are built to predict the shear capacity of reinforced concrete deep and slender beams.

Shear-Enhanced Transfer Printing of Conducting Polymer Thin Films [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Polymer conductors that are solution-processable provide an opportunity to realize low-cost organic electronics. However, coating sequential layers can be hindered by poor surface wetting or dissolution of underlying layers.
