Research Review on Inhibitors of Lumpy Skin Disease Virus: From Biological Characteristics, Drug Repurposing, to Computer‐Aided Drug Design

open access: yesInternational Journal of Microbiology, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
This review summarizes the research progress on inhibitors of lumpy skin disease virus (LSDV), focusing on its biological characteristics and key proteins involved in the viral replication cycle. It compiles various inhibitors (direct‐acting poxvirus inhibitors and host‐directed poxvirus inhibitors) against poxviruses, their mechanisms of action, and ...

Determination of some acute phase proteins, biochemical parameters and oxidative stress in sheep with naturally infected sheeppox virus [PDF]

open access: yesKafkas Universitesi Veteriner Fakültesi Dergisi, 2018
The aim of the present study was to determine oxidative stress and acute phase response in naturally infected sheep with poxvirus. For this purpose, 20 poxvirus infected and 10 clinically healthy sheep were used in the study.

Implementation of a Deep Learning System for Detection and Classification of Lumpy Skin Disease in Cattle: Enhancing Precision and Efficiency in Veterinary Diagnostics

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 11, Issue 6, November 2025.
GRAPHICAL ABSTRACT A deep learning system for the classification of lumpy skin disease in cattle is reported. Here, a novel ensemble model to leverage the strengths of ViT and ConvMixer models demonstrates the importance of model diversity in achieving high diagnostic performance.

Use of an Alignment-Free Method for the Geographical Discrimination of GTPVs Based on the GPCR Sequences

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2021
Goatpox virus (GTPV) belongs to the genus Capripoxvirus, together with sheeppox virus (SPPV) and lumpy skin disease virus (LSDV). GTPV primarily affects sheep, goats and some wild ruminants.

Selection of a suitable viral DNA extraction method for Sheeppox virus in cell culture

open access: yesRomanian Biotechnological Letters, 2021
A suitable method for the extraction of nucleic acids should be efficient, sensitive, rapid and simple. Moreover, ideally, good method should yield pure nucleic acid-free from any contaminant inhibitors. Several methods have been reported for viral deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) isolation but limited information is available on quick and simple isolation ...

Serum Biochemistry of Lumpy Skin Disease Virus‐Infected Cattle

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2016, Issue 1, 2016., 2016
Lumpy skin disease is an economically important poxvirus disease of cattle. Vaccination is the main method of control but sporadic outbreaks have been reported in Turkey. This study was carried out to determine the changes in serum biochemical values of cattle naturally infected with lumpy skin disease virus (LSDV).

A Genome‐Wide Screening of Novel Immunogenic TrLSDV103 Protein of Lumpy Skin Disease Virus and Its Application for DIVA

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 39, Issue 11, 15 June 2025.
Using the VirScan platform covering 4522 LSDV protein sequences, sera from 20 LSDV‐infected and 20 GTPV‐vaccinated cattle were used to screen phage libraries. Sequencing and bioinformatics analyses revealed peptides covering the TrLSDV103 protein. The candidate antigen was subsequently expressed, confirmed for its DIVA capability, and used to develop ...

Replication and Virulence in Cattle of the First Lumpy Skin Disease Virus Isolated in Xinjiang, China (2019)

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Before 2012, lumpy skin disease (LSD) was primarily confined to African countries. However, it rapidly spread to the Middle East and Southeast Europe, reaching the Balkans, the Caucasus, and the Russian Federation by 2015. The first confirmed case in China was reported on August 10, 2019, in Yili, Xinjiang, and on August 26, the Chinese government ...

Genetic Evolutionary Analysis of Lumpy Skin Disease Virus Strain Under Immune Pressure Exerted by Heterologous Goat Poxvirus Vaccines

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Lumpy skin disease (LSD) is an important infectious disease that threatens the global cattle industry. Recently, LSD has occurred frequently in Asia. The attenuated goat poxvirus (GTPV) vaccine is widely used to prevent LSD in cattle in China; however, sporadic cases of LSD still occur in immunized cattle.

Development of membrane protein‐based vaccine against lumpy skin disease virus (LSDV) using immunoinformatic tools

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 10, Issue 3, May 2024.
Following the retrieval of the Membrane glycoprotein of LSDV (Gene Bank ID: QIN91553.1), it was subjected to analysis for B‐ and T‐cell epitopes and other parameters. Subsequently, the construct for the 3D structure of the vaccine chimera was generated.
