Mushroom picking heuristics framework for knapsack-like problems of resource allocation

open access: yesZeszyty Naukowe Wyższej Szkoły Finansów i Prawa w Bielsku-Białej
Resource allocation is a complex challenge that extends across diverse disciplines, each presenting its distinct considerations and demands. This intricate task involves the distribution of resources in a manner that meets the needs and objectives of ...

Heuristics for shelf space allocation problem with vertical and horizontal product categorization

open access: yesProcedia Computer Science, 2022
In this research, we proposed a practical shelf space allocation model with the vertical and horizontal categorization of products. Five groups of constraints, such as shelf, product, multi-shelves, orientation and band constraints, are implemented in the model. We proposed two heuristics to solve the retailer's profit maximization problem.

The Role of Actual and Purported Origin in e‐Commerce Wine Pricing: Evidence From Italian and French Names on Labels

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The origin of a product, if associated with good quality, can contribute to building a positive collective reputation, leading to a potential price premium. However, it is conceivable that a producer markets a product by evoking symbols, images, words, and values typical of places other than where it was designed or produced, creating a ...

Assessing the Impact of Promotions on Consumer Purchasing Behavior During Crises

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Understanding how households modify their food expenditure decisions during times of crisis is essential because consumer purchasing behavior frequently changes during these times. This study looks at these behavioral shifts during the COVID‐19 pandemic, concentrating on how price sensitivity and response to sales promotions changed over the ...

Dynamic programming approach for solving the retail shelf-space allocation problem

open access: yesProcedia Computer Science, 2021
Abstract The retail sector is an extremely competitive area. One of the most important facets of retailing is managing retail shelf space. In a market place, retailers should offer customers an option of selecting not only the product but also the packaging size and purchasing quantity. In such instances, product prices often differ.

Reconfiguring Fresh Produce Supply Chains in Response to Drought Risk: Evidence From the U.S. Broccoli Market

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Drought is among the most severe and persistent threats to food supply chains, and relocating production to less drought‐prone regions offers a strategy to reduce this risk. This is particularly relevant for fresh vegetables, which are highly water‐intensive, yet drought‐driven reconfiguration strategies remain understudied.

A Heuristic Approach for Shelf Space Allocation Problem

open access: yesJournal of Military and Information Science, 2015
A shelf space allocation problem (SSAP) is a special form of multi constraint knapsack problem. The main difference between knapsack problem and SSAP is that a knapsack problem has only capacity constraints. Commercial space management systems use many different heuristic approaches for allocating shelf space due to NP-hard complexity of the SSAP ...

Value of Information of Improved Traceability in Fresh Produce Markets

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Traceability plays an important role in promoting a safe food supply by fostering transparent information exchange along the food supply chain. New technological innovations have the potential to improve traceability outcomes, as greater transparency along the food supply chain can aid in pinpointing precise origins of the contamination ...
