Shelf Space Allocation for Specific Products on Shelves Selected in Advance

open access: yesEUROPEAN RESEARCH STUDIES JOURNAL, 2021
Purpose: The aim of the research is to develop the shelf space allocation model for specific products on shelves selected in advance, based on the practical retail requirements. Retailers and manufacturers may impose particular conditions for the appearance of products on the shelf based on its package type, brand, price, form and size.

Shelf space allocation in retailing: a literature review

open access: yesRAIRO - Operations Research
Efficient allocation of shelf space is vital for attracting customers and maximizing profits in the retail industry, particularly given limited display areas. This paper offers a comprehensive review of shelf-space allocation (SSA) modeling, optimization techniques, and relevant case studies from 1969 to 2023. We categorize the literature into five key

U.S. Consumer Preferences for Cage‐Free Eggs and Hen Housing Policies

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Farm animal welfare (FAW) continues to be a divisive issue in the egg industry. In the United States, 10 states and most major retailers have implemented policies or voluntary pledges to transition to 100% cage‐free egg sales. We use best‐worst scaling and discrete choice experiments to evaluate U.S.

The Role of Actual and Purported Origin in e‐Commerce Wine Pricing: Evidence From Italian and French Names on Labels

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The origin of a product, if associated with good quality, can contribute to building a positive collective reputation, leading to a potential price premium. However, it is conceivable that a producer markets a product by evoking symbols, images, words, and values typical of places other than where it was designed or produced, creating a ...

Heuristics for shelf space allocation problem with vertical and horizontal product categorization

open access: yesProcedia Computer Science, 2022
In this research, we proposed a practical shelf space allocation model with the vertical and horizontal categorization of products. Five groups of constraints, such as shelf, product, multi-shelves, orientation and band constraints, are implemented in the model. We proposed two heuristics to solve the retailer's profit maximization problem.

Reconfiguring Fresh Produce Supply Chains in Response to Drought Risk: Evidence From the U.S. Broccoli Market

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Drought is among the most severe and persistent threats to food supply chains, and relocating production to less drought‐prone regions offers a strategy to reduce this risk. This is particularly relevant for fresh vegetables, which are highly water‐intensive, yet drought‐driven reconfiguration strategies remain understudied.
