Insomnia, excessive sleepiness, excessive fatigue, anxiety, depression and shift work disorder in nurses having less than 11 hours in-between shifts. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
STUDY OBJECTIVE: To assess if less than 11 hours off work between work shifts (quick returns) was related to insomnia, sleepiness, fatigue, anxiety, depression and shift work disorder among nurses.

Levitation of the quantum Hall extended states in the $B\to$ 0 limit

open access: yes, 2004
We investigate the fate of the quantum Hall extended states within a continuum model with spatially correlated disorder potentials. The model can be projected onto a couple of the lowest Landau bands.

Geometric phase for a dimerized disordered continuum: Topological shot noise [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Geometric phase shift associated with an electron propagating through a dimerized-disordered continuum is shown to be 0, or $\pm \pi$ (modulo 2$\pi$), according as the associated circuit traversed in the two-dimensional parameter space excludes, or ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Psychometric of the Persian Version of Shift Work Disorder Questionnaire in Employee Women [PDF]

open access: yesMajallah-i Dānishgāh-i ’Ulūm-i Pizishkī-i Shahīd Ṣadūqī Yazd, 2023
Introduction: Shift work disorder (SWD) is a sleep disorder that affects the circadian rhythm and is characterized by symptoms such as excessive daytime sleepiness and insomnia. This condition can significantly increase the risk of accidents and diminish

Microscopic modeling of photoluminescence of strongly disordered semiconductors

open access: yes, 2005
A microscopic theory for the luminescence of ordered semiconductors is modified to describe photoluminescence of strongly disordered semiconductors. The approach includes both diagonal disorder and the many-body Coulomb interaction.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Circadian Rhythm Sleep Disorder Among Nurses in Emergency Department: a Systematic Review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background: Circadian Rhythm Sleep Disorders (CRSD) is a sleep pattern disorder that can be caused by a shift work system, especially the night shift. This disorder can cause various cardiovascular diseases, psychological, decreased concentration, even ...

Microphotoluminescence study of disorder in ferromagnetic (Cd,Mn)Te quantum well

open access: yes, 2004
Microphotoluminescence mapping experiments were performed on a modulation doped (Cd,Mn)Te quantum well exhibiting carrier induced ferromagnetism. The zero field splitting that reveals the presence of a spontaneous magnetization in the low-temperature ...

Shift work and its association with metabolic disorders [PDF]

open access: yesDiabetology & Metabolic Syndrome, 2015
Although the health burden of shift work has not been extensively studied, evidence suggests that it may affect the metabolic balance and cause obesity and other metabolic disorders. Sleep deprivation, circadian desynchronization and behavioral changes in diet and physical activity are among the most commonly mentioned factors in studies of the ...
