Enantiospecific synthesis of (−)-5-epi-shikimic acid and (−)-shikimic acid

open access: yesJournal of the Chemical Society, Perkin Transactions 1, 1997
Diastereoselective reaction of 2,3-O-isopropylidene-D-ribose with allylmagnesium chloride gave a 5∶1 mixture of triols 4 and 5, which were then converted to nitrones 8 and 9. Intramolecular nitrone cycloaddition gave the isoxazolidines 10 and 11, which on acetylation gave the corresponding acetates 12 and 13 which were separated by repeated ...

Difluorinated analogues of shikimic acid

open access: yesTetrahedron, 2003
Investigations into the quinate to shikimate transformation have been carried out, the results of which have been exploited in the synthesis of a novel difluoromethylene homologue of shikimic acid from (-)-quinic acid. Martin's sulfurane {Ph2S[OC(CF3)2Ph]2} was the reagent of choice for the key dehydration step of this synthesis.

Metabolic engineering for microbial production of shikimic acid

Metabolic Engineering, 2003
Shikimic acid is a high valued compound used as a key starting material for the synthesis of the neuramidase inhibitor GS4104, which was developed under the name Tamiflu for treatment of antiviral infections. An excellent alternative to the isolation of shikimic acid from fruits of the Illicium plant is the fermentative production by metabolic ...

A concise route to (−)-shikimic acid and (−)-5-epi-shikimic acid, and their enantiomers via Barbier reaction and ring-closing metathesis

open access: yesTetrahedron Letters, 2009
A simple route for the synthesis of naturally occurring (-)-shikimic acid, (-)-5-epi-shikimic acid, and their enantiomers from D-ribose-derived enantiomeric aldehydes 8a and 8b by employing Barbier reaction and ring-closing metathesis as key steps has ...

Polymorphism of shikimic acid

China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica, 2016
This study was performed to systematically investigate the polymorphism of shikimic acid. Through optimizing the recrystallization solvent, solvent volume, recrystallization temperature, time and pressure, three crystal forms were discovered and prepared.

Shikimic acid in the light of current knowledge

Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, 2021
AbstractShikimic acid (SA) has been mainly used in the pharmaceutical industry for production of drugs, however, recently it has also appeared in the world of cosmetics. So far, there have not been many publications on cosmetics containing SA or research studies on the compound, especially those that would involve testing cosmetic products on subjects.
