Analysis of moorings of a berthed ship

Marine Structures, 1995
Abstract Ships are moored to the shore structures with a system of multiple moorings. The determination of the forces in the cables is essential for the design of moorings and for berthing structures. An optimum number and length of cables can be arrived at for a given ship of known dimensions and environrnental conditions.

Local navigation system for automatic ship berthing

Infocommunications and Radio Technologies, 2018
This paper shows that it is necessary to solve the problem of accurate ship positioning to provide automatic ship berthing. It is impossible to solve this problem using global positioning systems since they do not provide the proper precision. The principles and methods of development of a local navigation system are discussed.

Queueing at Single-Berth Shipping Terminal

Journal of the Waterways, Harbors and Coastal Engineering Division, 1971
Single-server queueing theory is used to derive average delay, distribution of queue lengths and distribution of delays at a port at which ships arrive randomly but can only be served one at a time. It is shown that this method gives quite different results to a commonly used method which assumes that the number of ships at a port at any time has a ...

Algorithms for Solving the Ship Berthing Problem

2000
The Ship Berthing Problem (SBP) is one of the many problems faced by a port in its daily execution. Ships arriving at the port will have to be assigned specific berthing location based on certain constraints arising from the ship's cargo or physical characteristics. SBP can be solved as a minimization problem, in which the aim is to assign all ships in

New Floating Cruise Ship Berths for Juneau, Alaska

Ports 2016, 2016
The City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ) needed additional berthing space downtown for the larger cruise ships arriving to the Inside Passage of Alaska. Floating cruise ship berths were selected by the project team as the preferred alternative in order to accommodate passenger loading, unloading, and queueing operations and to provide greater security ...

Squat in Berthed Ship - Passing Ship Interaction for Restricted Water Cases

2016
This paper presents a study on berthed ship – passing ship interaction for two different channel widths using physical model scale physical experiments and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The interaction forces and moment and the sinkage of the berthed ship were measured for the two different channel widths. In order to determine the effect that

Noise exposure in berthing rooms of Naval ships

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2017
Noise on aircraft carriers is known to exceed hazardous noise levels as jets launch and land on the flight deck and loud machinery operates below deck. Crew members often reach their daily noise allowance while performing work duties but the conditions for auditory recovery onboard are not well understood.

A study on automatic ship berthing system design

2009 International Conference on Networking, Sensing and Control, 2009
The berthing is one of the most sophisticated control action carried out by human operators, especially when the disturbance due to wind and current become relatively large with a small ship velocity. Since, to improve the flexibility and safety' ship for berthing, auxiliary maneuvering measures such as bow and stern thrusters have come to be attached.

A multivariable neural controller for automatic ship berthing

IEEE Control Systems, 1997
This article describes the development and application of a multivariable neural controller for automatic ship berthing. Following a brief review of various methods employed in automatic ship control, an online trained, backpropagation-based neural network controller is presented.

The berthing ship problem: Forces on berthing structures from moving ships

1978
In this report a mathematical model is formulated which is sufficiently accurate to describe quantitatively and qualitatively the behaviour of a ship berthing to a structure equipped with fenders as well as to determine the response of the fenders themselves.
