Roll damping of a surface effect ship with split air cushion

open access: yesIFAC-PapersOnLine, 2018
Abstract This paper considers linear modeling of a surface effect ship (SES) where roll motions are damped by exclusively exploiting a longitudinally split air cushion design. On a SES, the pressurized air cushions can support up to approximately 80 % of the vessels weight.

Assessment of the Roll Derivatives of Different Surface Ships Based on Numerical Pure Roll Simulation

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2022
Among the 6 degrees of freedom (6-DoF), excessive roll motion is the most dangerous cause of ships capsizing. However, when analyzing the maneuverability of surface ships, the roll components have usually been ignored.

Parametric Identification for the Biased Ship Roll Motion Model Using Genocchi Polynomials

open access: yesJournal of Mathematics, 2022
Roll motion is one of the key motions related to a vessel’s dynamic stability. It is essential for the dynamic stability of ships in the realistic sea. For this research study, we have investigated the parameters involved in damping of the ship.

Investigation of the hydrodynamic model test of forced rolling for a barge using PIV

open access: yesZhongguo Jianchuan Yanjiu, 2017
In order to study the physical details of viscous flow in ship roll motions and improve the accuracy of ship roll damping numerical simulation, the application of the Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) technique is investigated in model tests of forced ...

A Unified Internal Flow Model with Fluid Momentum for General Application in Shipflooding and Beyond

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2023
This paper deals with the development and validation of a unified internal flow model (UIF) for the prediction of fluid behaviour in a network of 3D floodable cells such as an internal ship compartment subdivisions.

Design of an Optimal Controller for the Roll Stabilization of Surface Ships with Active Fins [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Eta Maritime Science, 2018
In this paper, an optimal controller is designed to control the undesired roll motion of a ship under the effect of sea waves by using active fin stabilizers. The roll dynamics is described by a single-degree-offreedom nonlinear model.

Frequency-Domain Ship Motion Code with Python Programming Language

open access: yesJournal of Eta Maritime Science, 2021
In this study, a frequency-domain seakeeping code is established. A container ship was selected as an example to demonstrate the outputs of the code in different headings, ranging from the beam to head waves.

Evaluation of the Damping Associated to Reciprocating Movement of a Double-Cone Travelling on Straight or Curved Divergent-Convergent Rails

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2022
Damping characteristics of the mechanism consisted of a double-cone, travelling on straight and curved rails, have great influence on the hunting motion of railway vehicles, and on the efficiency of wave-powered electrical generators.
