Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

The Prediction of Short‐Term Atmospheric Density in Lower Thermosphere

open access: yesSpace Weather
Accurate short‐term prediction of atmospheric density in the lower thermosphere (85–125 km) is essential for precise orbit determination and satellite drag mitigation, particularly during geomagnetic storms.

A Novel Online Dynamic Temporal Context Neural Network Framework for the Prediction of Road Traffic Flow

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
Traffic flow exhibits different magnitudes of temporal patterns, such as short-term (daily and weekly) and long-term (monthly and yearly). Existing research into road traffic flow prediction has focused on short-term patterns; little research has been ...

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Improving Short Term Clock Prediction for BDS-2 Real-Time Precise Point Positioning

open access: yesSensors, 2019
Although there are already several real-time precise positioning service providers, unfortunately, not all users can use the correction information due to either cost of the service and limitation of their equipment or out of the service coverage.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Short-term prediction for bike-sharing service using machine learning

open access: yes, 2018
The bike-sharing service has brought many conveniences to citizens and served as an effective supplement to the mass transit system. For docked bike-sharing service, each docking station has the designated location to store bikes and the station could be

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...
