In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Quality of vision in patients implanted with aspherical and spherical intraocular lens: Intraindividual comparison

open access: yesIndian Journal of Ophthalmology, 2014
Aims: To compare the quality of vision in pseudophakic patients implanted with aspherical and spherical intraocular lenses (IOLs). Materials and Methods: Randomized prospective longitudinal intrapatient comparison between aspherical and spherical IOLs ...

Extremal noise events, intermittency and Log-Poisson statistics in non-equilibrium aging of complex systems

open access: yes, 2005
We review the close link between intermittent events ('quakes') and extremal noise fluctuations which has been advocated in recent numerical and theoretical work.

Finite-temperature and finite-time scaling of the directed polymer free-energy with respect to its geometrical fluctuations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We study the fluctuations of the directed polymer in 1+1 dimensions in a Gaussian random environment with a finite correlation length {\xi} and at finite temperature.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

An unusual cause of optic atrophy in a child

open access: yesIndian Journal of Ophthalmology, 2014
A 13-year-old child presenting with gross visual impairment was diagnosed as a case of optic atrophy. However, radiological investigations revealed osteopetrosis, which, though rare, can result in optic atrophy.

A generic estimate of trans-Planckian modifications to the primordial power spectrum in inflation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We derive a general expression for the power spectra of scalar and tensor fluctuations generated during inflation given an arbitrary choice of boundary condition for the mode function at a short distance.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Rapid Optical Fluctuations in the Black Hole Binary, V4641 Sgr

open access: yes, 2002
We report on unprecedented short-term variations detected in the optical flux from the black hole binary system, V4641 Sgr. Amplitudes of the optical fluctuations were larger at longer time scales, and surprisingly reached ~60% around a period of ~10 min.
