The EM Algorithm in Genetics, Genomics and Public Health
The popularity of the EM algorithm owes much to the 1977 paper by Dempster, Laird and Rubin. That paper gave the algorithm its name, identified the general form and some key properties of the algorithm and established its broad applicability in ...

Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Characterization and Discovery of Short Linear Motifs Mediating Protein Nuclear Import [PDF]
Protein-protein interactions (PPI) mediated through short linear motifs (SLiMs) are ubiquitous throughout the human proteome and are involved in many essential cellular processes. One such type of SLiM is the classical nuclear localization sequence (cNLS), which facilitates nuclear import by binding importin-α (Imp-α).

Early region 1A (E1A) is the first viral protein produced upon human adenovirus (HAdV) infection. This multifunctional protein transcriptionally activates other HAdV early genes and reprograms gene expression in host cells to support productive infection.

Disordered binding regions and linear motifs--bridging the gap between two models of molecular recognition. [PDF]
Intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) exist without the presence of a stable tertiary structure in isolation. These proteins are often involved in molecular recognition processes via their disordered binding regions that can recognize partner ...

Targeted modulation of IGFL2‐AS1 reveals its translational potential in cervical adenocarcinoma
Cervical adenocarcinoma patients face worse outcomes than squamous cell carcinoma counterparts despite similar treatment. The identification of IGFL2‐AS1's differential expression provides a molecular basis for distinguishing these histotypes, paving the way for personalized therapies and improved survival in vulnerable populations globally.

Masking residues using context-specific evolutionary conservation significantly improves short linear motif discovery [PDF]
Abstract Motivation: Short linear motifs (SLiMs) are important mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their short and degenerate nature presents a challenge for computational discovery. We sought to improve SLiM discovery by incorporating evolutionary information, since SLiMs are more conserved than surrounding residues.

Structure and Dynamics in the ATG8 Family From Experimental to Computational Techniques
Autophagy is a conserved and essential intracellular mechanism for the removal of damaged components. Since autophagy deregulation is linked to different kinds of pathologies, it is fundamental to gain knowledge on the fine molecular and structural ...

Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated
