Numerical Simulation of SHPB Experiment and Analysis on Stress Wave
Concrete is a typical kind of rate sensitive material. In this paper, the concrete specimens were tested in the SHPB experiment system. Based on H-J-C constitutive model, the SHPB experiment was simulated by LS-DANY. The stress-strain curves which were gat from numerical simulation in the LS-DANY were compared with the stress-strain curves which were ...

A modified method of pulse-shaper technique applied in SHPB
Composites Part B: Engineering, 2019Abstract During the experimental measurement of solid materials by SHPB, a pulse-shaper technique is used to eliminate high-frequency oscillation components and acquire an incident pulse with a rising time that is greater than the time needed by the test specimen to reach a stress equilibrium state.

Experimental study for friction effect investigation on SHPB
The paper presents an investigation on SHPB behaviour used for material characterisation in compression testing at high strain rate. Material flow stress determined with the SHPB test is affected by radial and axial inertia as well as friction. The particular topics treated are the effects of friction between specimen and bars interfaces on the flow ...

Strain-rate effect of polymers and correction methodology in a SHPB test
Split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) has been commonly used to characterize the dynamic behavior of polymer at high strain-rates from 102 to 104 s−1. Based on numerical SHPB tests and Drucker-Prager model, this study examines the SHPB technique for the ...

An SHPB set-up with reduced time-shift and pressure bar length
A modification of split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) set-up based on wave separation technique is proposed in the present paper, which may be used to reduce the time-shifting distance and the pressure bar length in an SHPB test.

The correction for using X-cut quartz transducers in SHPB
A correction method for using X-cut quartz transducers in SHPB was proposed. We analyzed the error factors from the piezoelectric equation. Using numerical simulation results, we found the major error.

CORRECTION OF LATERAL INERTIA EFFECT IN SHPB
International Journal of Modern Physics B, 2008A theoretical analysis of the stress state in specimen of the SHPB experiment was performed in consideration of lateral inertia effect. The nonuniformity of lateral stress in specimen and variety of deforming velocity in the loading process were taken into account in the analysis. A formula to correcting the lateral inertia effect was obtained.

Strain rate design in SHPB test
SPIE Proceedings, 2009A strain rate calculation formula of split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) test is derived from one-dimensional stress wave propagation theory. According to the test conditions and specimen size, the test strain rate can be calculated by the formula; and the strain rate limitative range of SHPB test is analyzed.
